A kitchen range, a base heater and now two large oak stoves - one with a back pipe. Hummmmm,... where have I seen that before ? :D

I thought about a couple more photos you might be interested in so went out and took a couple more. This shows where the air is brought in at the bottom of the stove for the double heater feature.

Doesn't seem like much total opening to get enough airflow in to heat an upper room.

The corners on the base looks like logical bolt locations......do I see WD-40/PB Blaster applied??

You do see PB blaster applied, the nuts were rusted when we tried to take off the skirting. The PB blaster loosened them right up and we got out of there in record time. :D

I love a doubting Thomas because I was one last year with the #517. I am going to withhold my doubts this time because the Andes really surprised me last year. Hold that thought Paul. :D Having said that, these are not huge stoves so I don't think they were meant to heat huge upstairs rooms either.

Those holes, just guessing 1"w X 1 1/2" hi? I vote in favor of the old boys who designed it. Very deliberate people ya know ;) Possibly they were looking for a venturi effect? Velocity?

I did not measure the holes but that is a very close guess. Once you get convection going, you can suck a lot of air through there. Look at what just putting the curved skirting on a stove does to convection currents, they make a huge difference in heat distribution. Too be honest, I don't know what to expect from this stove but I do know one thing, it is going to be restored and brought back to life. If it does not work in my home, it will in someone else's. One more piece of history saved. :D

Convection.........Not to go too far astray but I am a true believer. Still waiting for the temperature that my Rube Goldberg heat syphon cant handle. Lowest so far has been an overnight of 37* and upstairs has held steady 74*. Right now front screen door open and 3 windowstats to boot. Ds Machine is idling along @ 275* and the damper on my heat uptake pipe is closed. (it probably lets some heat pass thru) Your 517 would have been a perfect fit for this application but it's too damn nice to put in a basement like mine which is work/storage space.
Reason for the collector location is the DS hot spot is directly under the rear face of the "box". It is also not sitting in contact with the stove top. It has a 1" gap which serves the same function as the holes in the bottom of your double heater. The rear edge of the box overhangs the back edge of the stove top by 3".

I'm wondering how far the double heater feature will move hot air sideways on the same floor level of the house, ... like to another room that cold air can return from ? Maybe even as far as the other end of the house ??????

A really sore hip! I had a hip replacement 3 months ago, should not have been hauling around a stove and a 12 hour drive. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT! LOL

U Bee Crazy .... LOL

Post back tomorrow with a followup with an ambulation report. Long drives can play havoc on old timers.

Nice find Randy.
You really started something, yesterday when I went to bed you just mentioned that you where back, and too tired to make some pictures.
This morning 11 hours later, there are 4 pages to read
