Harman VF3000 coming today!!!

PostBy: Coalbrokdale On: Wed Mar 19, 2008 9:41 am

My VF3000 coal boiler is getting delivered today. What should I check to be sure it was delivery in good condition and nothing is missing. I have read that others have received the boiler with missing parts. This is the only information I could find with a breakdown of the parts included.

This link is broken, either the page no longer exists or there is some other issue like a typo.

I'll welcome any information regarding how to kick the tires and what to look for.

My boiler was missing the whole stoker assembly which is contained in a separate box by it self. My wifes cousins was missing the hopper which is also a separate box. Keep us posted and some pics would be nice. As you get it fully assembled and you think you might be missing something, lets us know and we'll help you out. Congtatualtions!

Still on the pallet, I removed all the sheet metal and unpacked everything all apears to be there.. I assembed the verti flow stoker installed it in the boiler and gave it a dry run to see how the pusher block and fan worked. Not sure if it will get installed this season, would love to but may be better waiting till I can take down the gas boiler and move it over to make more room. I'm dying to see it run!!

I'll post pictures, yeah the manual sucks but I figured it out....

Congratulations on the delivery of your 890# baby! Yea, at this point in the season, I would probably take my time and do it right and plan for the fall. I think you'll be very pleased but your gas company is not gonna like it.

Some folks operate their new appliances in the driveway for a while to burn off the shipping and assembly oils , so the installation doesn't smoke up the basement on first fire.

That can be exciting! :o

I wondered about that...? Would firing it up dry without water harm anything? I guess I could fill it off the hose to buffer some of the heat and keep everthing on the lowest setting.

Probably wouldn't hurt on low but I'd plug the lower holes and add water just that same if you're going to burn it off. I honestly don't recall mine making much smoke on start up the first time. Of course I was alittle busy running around opening all my windows as the CO alarm was blaring.

Maybe this weekend. I'll shoot a video and post it on youtube!!

Can some one discuess the 3 aquasts \ Johnson Controls and what they do and how they should be used with the me using the gas boiler controls?

A350
Looks like it measures the boiler water temp from the Immersion well, and send the signal to the TSat wire on the feeder control box

Y350
Looks like a simple Transformer box converting 120 VAC to 24 VDC...?

S350
Looks like this will only be use to control the Overheat Dump valve?

ummmm well - I might tell you something that differs from the factory wiring.

What does the factory documentation say?

Congrats on the new arrival!

My VF3K was only missing the spring handles for the two doors, but the dealer made good and got me replacements.

I wouldn't fire the boiler without water in it, you don't know what kind of stresses you will place on the weldments when the inner walls heat up much faster/hotter than the outer walls, even on a low fire. Those 8 schedule 80 water pipes will expand and push on the side walls of the boiler and put undue stress on the joints.

Your aquastat is the Johnson controls A350 with the knob on it, the Y350 is the power supply and the S350 is your limit control to turn on the dump valve when the water gets too hot. The S350 is set to 30 degreees higher than the water temp.

Ok so by looking at the manual the S350 appears top have 110 volts coming out of it. I guess when the limit trips it allows the 110 volts to flow, which can be used to run the Circ pump and also open a 24volt zone valve if it's run through a transformer. So do I need to pick up a transformer to to drop the voltage or does it have on built in somewhere?

Yea, gota agree with you guys about firing up the unit with out water in it.... I guess if I fill it up it would be fine but I would want the tubes filled with water.

If you fire up without water the metal will not heat up evenly, causeing warping and cracking......Dried fired boiler=SCRAP
