Good day! Come in, rest for a minute & enjoy a hot beverage. Breakfast is cooking.... home fries & however you want eggs. Also home made oat bread thank you Cousin Chris. Top that off with Renata's raspberry jelly & we've got a good start to the day.
Certainly summer has passed us by. I doubt we will see 75 again this year. Maybe even lucky to see 65 again!
I've never been as late as this year to get my coal bin filled. Here's a picture looking down from my roof. As most of you know I built a removable roof back in '08. I use the backhoe to lift it off & once a year fill the bin. Oddly, even with the long cold winter, I think I used less coal last year than usual. Each year it takes 8 to 10 scoops to fill the bin, but this year it only took seven. Maybe 'cause I'm living alone? Also a pic of the backhoe in the storage bin. Poor ol' thing, but after this years repairs I hope it keeps on ticking for many more years. Oh! I finally have the answer to "how much coal do you burn?" Until this fill-up I could only guess, but now I can tell that my 10 year supply is actually going to last 10 years. So, the answer is 4.6 ton a year. Another year or so & I'll be looking to buy more coal.
Enjoy the weekend!

Mornin all. Nice breakfast choice Freddy. We got rain yesterday for the first time in a month. Strange Fall indeed. That old CASE will outlast most of us Freddy. LOL Enjoy the week-end people.
Morning all.....i'll be feeding 6 teenagers that stayed the night so I needed food from the coalie breakfast bar to get my strength up to flip a bunch o' pancakes this morning!
Got the coal bunker filled up last week and I'll get the bin by the basement window filled today after making sure the coal vac system is still performing. Even though I don't expect to fire up for another 3 or 4 weeks it will be nice to have the coal bin loaded while the ground is hard and not tear up the yard with the loader if we happen to get a weeks worth of rain.
I want to run the thatcher through the yard and cut it low so I can over seed today too. Maybe one of these years I'll get some real grass to grow rather than the crabgrass that always takes over. I wouldn't care so much except the crabgrass dies off in the winter and it gets very muddy.
Have a great day!

Mornin everyone. Great breakfast Freddy, eggs over easy please.
Fall appears to be starting, they are calling for very cool temps for the next week. Won't be long before the snow flies.
Glad to hear the backhoe is repaired, and you got your coal in the bin, Freddy.
Take care and be safe all

Good morning. Looks like a beautiful weekend ahead of us. We plan to pick some pumpkins, and go watch my brother shred some brush. He rented a big skidsteer with an attachment that chews through brush and trees. He said it handles 4-6" trees pretty easily, and larger if you go very slow. the best part is that you can buzz the stumps off very close to the ground. He has already cleared out all the thorn trees and brush, larger saplings are next.

Good morning jents, nice choice for breakfast this morning Freddy. Me and the dog are enjoying a nice little fire and I'm drinking coffee here in KY, it's a nice 52* this morning but I think it's going to hit 70.
So Freddy are you going to get another semi load or two of coal anytime soon? Don't forget your hoe was down for sometime too but at least your up and running and you got it done without shoveling it in . Take care friends be safe and enjoy . Keepaeyeonit
Not much going this weekend except my nephews wedding today that's why we're down here, we could have stayed with my sister but she has a house full of out of towners and we like our own space anyways so we made a camping trip out of it .So Freddy are you going to get another semi load or two of coal anytime soon? Sweet Case Freddy. I still need to get me one of those loaders here. Would sure help getting my yard the way I want it. Some day .. maybe ...
Played around with the neighbor's '06 Impala today. Had the light on for 2 codes related to the post-cat o2 sensor's heater circuit. Totally useless - has no bearing on how the damn car runs, but because we live in MA, my 85 year old neighbor has to shell out money to fix it. Boy does that burn my ass! Bought a new sensor after checking wiring out, and testing the heater circuit resistance. No idea if it's fixed until it's driven for a week or 2 .. or 3 or 4! Boy, gotta love these electronic wonders!! They sure know how to design 'em ...
Gotta run - there's a tractor out front with a set of tires for me to change.

That is cheap heat even with the prices up there Freddy, and you can lock in for ten years.... Still pretty nice down here, leaves are turning but the falls are long and warm, been raining way to much, but you can't have everything.
Just rounding up my reloading supplies from storage and getting ready for a 2 week trip to my hunting camp in Whiting, ME. Havn't hunted in 3 years so really looking forward to getting back in my home area. Getting one is irrelevant, I am meeting my brother in Virginia the first of Nov. and he is bringing down coolers full of meat. He will most likely limit out that week near Danville, Virginia and that is 12 deer. I will be picking up some smoked mackerels and last years deer and maybe some moose. Would be nice to be retired like him, he is hunting the first week of Nov in Virginia, going back to Maine and hunting with me for the 2nd week, leaving for Anticosti Island in the St Lawrence seaway for the 3rd week, coming back and finishing the Maine season over Thanksgiving (if he didn't get one in the 2nd week) and then going up to you guys neighborhood with a fellow he met at the baseball tourney he plays in every year at Cooperstown NY. Chapman Dam area north of Pittsburgh. Says the guy is a logger and has the only camp surrounded by a state park. Anyhoo, enjoy the rest of the weekend all.

Hi everybody,
Guess I missed breakfast again...we hit the road early for a day trip to the Maryland Renascence Festival. That was a lot of fun. We watched the Joust, saw some Shakespeare in the street, and enjoyed a Celtic Band complete with bagpipes. I swear one of the pipers had one too many energy drinks. He was all over the place and never missed a beat.
The weather was beautiful at 70* with a slight breeze but that’s not going to last. This week I’ll turn my attention to the coal stoves. I’ll replace some fire bricks, do some rust prevention and painting and clean the brass trim. I have the black pipes setting by but they won’t go up for another month or so, just before I light the match.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Take care, Lisa

Keep your eyes open.... I got this one in 2001 from an estate ....the ol' man died & I got the Case from the heirs for $1,500. I immediately put eight or nine hundred into repairing hydraulic leaks and a few years later $600ish for a new stab arm cylinder. Then a few years back $500 for brakes. Now this year about $1,500 for the fuel injector.... I've had it for 14 years now & I can sell it for about 3 grand more than I have in it. All in all, a pretty good deal.SMITTY wrote:Sweet Case Freddy. I still need to get me one
You'll love this picture Smitty..... In 2004 I replaced it's front axle king pin bearings using Fel-Poxy glue and Popsicle sticks.... to this day the front end is still tight!

Hello Everybody. Beautiful time of year! I love being outdoors. Motorcycle ride to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary yesterday. Saw some good birds. Few juvenile eagles, ospreys, a Norther Harrier and plenty of Sharp Shinned Hawks. One of the eagles was being harassed by a sharpy. Fun to watch. The eagle just continues to soar oblivious to the hawk.
Take care all.
Take care all.

AWESOME PICS, Cap!! We didn't take any pics as we walked around to various spots in our garden this a/m,but we saw lots of frost & found lots of frozen leaves covered with ice. This will pretty much end the growing season for this yr. The growing season is my favorite time of the yr,fall has its beautiful colors, but also its many reminders that the cold winter season is on its way.Our porch thermometer showed 36*,it is sheltered tho & right up against the house.

Beautiful views! How high is Hawk Mountain?Cap wrote:Motorcycle ride to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
Last week I was walking the dogs in my back yard & saw four eagles at the same time. They flew higher & higher until they were just specks in the sky, then broke up & went in 4 different directions. Fun stuff.

We've had a pair of hawks here dining on the plentiful mice and snakes in the yard here. All summer long they'd be perched on a big tree out back, just waiting. Was funny watching all the little birds attack them. No idea what kind of hawks they were. Normally all red-tails around here. Never seen these before. Very light colored. White and tan under wings and belly, light gray up top. No pics - I don't own a camera that can shoot that far out.
Nice job with the sticks there Freddy. Anything to take up the slop. Wow you got a killer deal on that thing! I never find deals like that. Everything down here is top dollar, no matter where you find it.
