Im all for shooting innocent animals anytime but that isnt gonna fix the hole in your shed. I heard that peppermint oil on cottonballs will keep rodents out without an annoying smell. I have a single stroke pellet gun that I bought at one of those cummins tool sales for 20 bucks...that would probably kill a squirrel or at least hurt him enough to ask you for a couple tylenol.

A big rat trap will work too.

I've searched for a hole in the wall & can find none. Is it possible for a squirrel to climb down the furnace flue (from the roof chimney) through the gas FHA furnace & get into the house this way? (I know they are on the roof sometimes) The flue looks like maybe 4"-6" clay flue.

Absolutley yes. The key is to not have any tree branches anywhere too close that allows the little buggers to get on your roof. They'll chew through siding, soffit fascia or wahtever it takes too. But down the old chimney and out the draft hod of your gas furnace is an easy ride.

We don't have any over-hanging or even close tree branches but I have seen squirrels climb up the downspouts to get on the roof. (Plus, the furnace is on so little....Thanks to Harman.....that there is usally no exhaust gases to repel them)

It may have snuck in with you one day when a door was open too.

I use cayenne pepper in my bird feeders to keep the squirrels away - it doesn't affect the birds but the squirrels get it on their paws and then into their eyes and mouth and it does affect them as it would for humans. It may work to sprinkle some around the furnace room.

Or put a spark arrestor cap on your gas flue.

Had one fall down our fireplace flue when I was a kid. We were away & the thing ate the window sill to shreds trying to get out. We found it dead in the fireplace.
