I burn Blaschak to. It seems to have a low fusion point. This means if you burn it at a lower temp, it won't clinker as easy.

Thanks. ..I appreciate it and understand. ...I like to know the "why" so I can put together the puzzle. I'm burning a full 3 gallon pail a day. ..does that sound right

I'm guessing 3 gallons is 20 to 25 pounds. I wish I was burning that little! I'm burning between 40 and 50 pounds per day and I am way south of you. I don't think you will get under 20 pounds per day so, you are doing well!

I think you really should put the air settings back where they were John.
What your seeing with the red ash is iron in the coal which is normal
in anthracite coal deposits.

If your already having clinkers, and is not even cold out yet, I would not run to much air. This will only get worse when the boiler is on a long heat call. The coal will fuse (clinker) and it can stick to the grate and cause a dam. This is a known issue when using red ash coal with a flat grate stoker.

Running more air makes more heat. If you run so much air it causes the coal to fuse, you may run into stoker feed problems down the road.

Hello John,

Where is the red adjustment knob set for your pusher plate stroke length?

12 turns down...was at 15 but did not have the suggested ash at the end of the grate

Once thing to consider here is that red ash coal clinkers far more (and far easier) than does white (gray) ash coal. This is just its nature.

Typically Blaschak coal is the white ash variety, but they may have a different vein or source so could be red ash, I guess.???

hi again jj. thing seem to have settled down with your boiler. just remember, if you make a change this is a 24 hour change in setting as these boilers react slowly to change. enjoy the heat, especially up here in the county in the middle of winter. dandy
