I have a Keystoker hot air furnance everything was going good change to kimmel rice coal and fire went out and now I can't get the thing lit.I have been burning a stoker for 4 years now.took all the coal out push plate (auger)working as it should.I took the combustion fan off ,very little ask in there . Put a light in the fire box all holes in the shoe look clean. Put the combustion fan back on started it up and getting plenty of air through the shoe. The only thing I can think of is bad coal. I bought it at tractor supply in the beginning of the month. Any help or suggestions with this problem would be appreciated. thanks

That sure is different than most Kimmel coal users report.... most speak highly of how easy it is to get the fire hot quick with Kimmels coal. Since you have been using a stoker for 4 yrs already, I guess it won't help to tell you that the fan blowing air thru coal won't lite it  you have to have some fire too toothy

I now use a 4 inch diameter cardboard tube, 4 inches tall. I cut a 1 inch air hole in the base edge for lighting. 1 sheet of newspaper, cowboy charcoal, and coal. Light it with a torch, turn on combustion fan and you are burning. Be sure to have coal on the backside of the cardboard tube and around the tube over the air holes and you are burning.

Does the coal look like it should or just a little different. You can get bad coal and you would not be the first person I know to have gotten bad coal from Kimmel. Does it try to burn? As suggested try a different bag or even a different brand and see what happens.

Thanks for all the replies . I cleaned all the coal out of the hopper and the shoe put in a new bag in and it lit like it always has. I hope that was all the bad stuff in that ton. thanks again for the suggestions. :D
