762 total lbs. of coal burned
Estimated 140 lbs. to heat DHW (assumption : 4.5 lbs. per day)
Estimated 622 lbs. to heat home
395 local HDD's (computed via the nearest Weather Underground back-yard weather station, ~1.5 miles from my house)
~1.57 lbs. per HDD

Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood

I wish I was where you are on coal consumption Larry. I'm at 1500 pounds on the nose from Sept 30 to Oct 30. 50 pounds per day. Temps in the mid to upper 60's most days. Only 3 or 4 nights below freezing.

hmm I must be doing alright then, 948 pounds for the month of october. thats house, dhw, and some heat calls in the garage. thats 30.5 lbs per day. I think ill take it for a hand fed.

I should have stated that my garage is on its own T-Stat and zone loop, but to date it has not gotten cold enough for a heat call to have occurred in my attached garage that is effectively half of the homes walk-out basement.

Hotblast1357, the region around Plattsburgh, NY generally has about 22% more HDD's that we get in the vicinity of Wadsworth, OH, so (all else being equal) you should burn about 22% more coal per month than I do. Sounds like you are doing just fine.
