How embarassed are you to live in CT ?

I've been contemplating buying a new or "newer" car or truck. However, if my car taxes on my 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser are $ 600.00 dollars per year, how the hell much would they be for a 2012 Ford F150 for example?

The taxes are actually performing the opposite function, in fact they are stunting economic growth. I could not stomach paying higher car taxes which will prevent me from buying a new or newer vehicle.

What drove him out of Coventry? I used to live just over the border in Phenix.

He told me it was the taxes as well.

A friend of mine moved to the Greene section of Coventry last year. I think he has 3 acres and paid a little over $250k. I think he told me his property tax is about $7600/yr.

For no trash pickup, no city water or sewer, and a bankrupt fire district that he has to pay and additional tax for. What a great deal!

There is nothing like Connecticut. As soon as you drive over the state line, the landscape is transformed into a sight to behold. Endless stone walls, pastureland, the shoreline. Our schools are the best. Our kids, if they buckle down, receive a top education and are able to compete against the best. That is if they buckle down and that takes tough parenting to get results.
We have one of the most beautiful states in this country. We are not ravaged by tornadoes, flooding, drought, crippling cold temperatures or endless miserable summers. Overall the climate is pretty temperate with exceptions.
We are Yankees. We are winners. We are the best. We are Connecticut - sassy, smart and strong.
Winners don't whine and complain. They are positive, thankful people.
Today I am blessed. I have a hot fire in my coal stove and I am ready to bundle up and hike my dog through the woods to wonder at the new fallen snow. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Glad to see there is at least one Connecticut Yankee left. A breed mostly extinct.

Where I live there are also endless stone walls; a legacy and reminder of the mind boggling labor of the generations that built them. A foundation in stone of the spirit of what once was.

Today those walls no longer enclose sunny pastures, but second growth forest, making it difficult to see their extent; a sort of graveyard to what once existed, returning the spirit back to its source.

Thanks CN. I just spit rum and Coke all over my monitor.

madelyn sounds like she could be the governor of RI. Damn the reality, just keep saying things are fine.

But you guys are killing me. I thought I was going to slightly improve my lot by moving to CT from RI. At least the abuse will be familiar. :)

I can throw a stone to RI - got some serious problems there. Most of my neighbors are working in Cranston, Providence and Pawtucket. When I need a little attitude, I drive into Rhode Island.
I have to say, second to Ct, Rhode Island might have the best food. But then, I was raised in New Haven and we wrote the book.

Connecticut can have has a sense of deep solitude though NH has a deeper solitude born of the same freedoms that no longer exist in Connecticut.

Plus it's so soothing and (in my opinion) a rather profound quintessential American solitude to have neighbors on the other side of the valley communicate with a .308.
