Had a fun day today. The first call came at 8:20am. Caller ID gave the phone number of 845-877-72** Dover Plains, NY.. I answered the phone, and the recording said that it was the IRS, and they were filing a lawsuit to sue me in the local court and I needed to call them back right away. I of course didn't call them back. I figured I would call the Attorney Generals office after 9am. Well, I received a second call from the same number at 9:15am, same message again.

I had already done a reverse phone lookup, and the number had a name ladies listed with it ( I won't publish the name), but the address given was a Connecticut street address, and below that was the 'Dover Plains, Ny' address. I thought hmmmmm this is different.

So I called the Attorney Generals office and was instructed to call the IRS in DC directly to report this. I called the number I was given, and ended up filling out an online complaint form (couldn't get a live person on the phone).

At about 11am I received yet another call from the same number. Same recording with the same contact person who was supposedly Officer Racliff. This time I called back.....busy signal.....after 5 minutes I called again. The phone was answered by 'Officer Kevin (I couldn't understand the last name)' with the IRS. I said "Officer, could I gat your badge number please", he said "NO" and hung up. In the background I could hear the 'boiler room operation. At least 20 other voices on other phone calls, the place was just buzzing with activity.

Me getting curiouser and curiouser.....I went back to my original reverse phone lookup, and got the ladies name again. Did a search on 'whitepages' for the name, and I got a hit. Same name and same address in Connecticut, but it still listed the same 845 877 72** number. That's a New York number. I then did what any red blooded American Snooper would do, I went to Google maps, brought up the New Preston, CT. address a looked at the duplex this lady lives in. Ain't hardly big enough for the kind of operation I heard goin on, me thinks. So I went one farther....Next door to this house is a business, so I called that number after reading the sign out front and getting the name.

Had a really nice discussion with the owner. Turns out that he actually deals with the Amish and Mennonites in my area. He buys furnture and things from them all the time. Anyway, I explained to him what was going on, and that his neighbors name was associated with the call I received. He said he did in fact know the lady, although it wasn't on a real personal level. He said that there was no way that many (the 20 or more I heard) people were in that place as it was way too small. He said he would give her all the info that I gave him.

PS, the reverse phone lookup also revealed 'Level 3 Communications'

Then about 3pm, I receive another call. Caller Id says 'uknown caller". I answer and the man says, " I'm with the federal government grant program, and I have money for you". I said "Money for me" he says "yes sir" I said "BUNCHES OF MONEY?" he says "yes sir, 9,730 dollars". I said "and all you need is my social security number, right ?" he said "yes sir I do". I said "hold on, I'll get that right away". I laid the phone upside down on the dining room table and went to the living room and watched Hot Bench on TV. I kept him tied up on the phone for over 15 minutes. At the 17 minute mark, my phone started beeping loudly as the call had been disconnected. LMFAO

Thanks, FF. I tried to give as much info to our members as I could, without divulging a possible 'identity theft' that I may have inadvertantly uncovered.

The past week our area has been getting calls supposedly from a local bank informing you that your debit card has been lost. My wife and I and several other people I spoke to got the calls. I called the bank and they were aware of the scam.
