Hi Guy's here is another question for you. My old Efel's hopper was in the back of the stove so she gravity fed from the back to the front. With the Alaska Kodiak the hopper is going to dump directly onto the top of the fire so how much should my base fire be up the fire brick before I fill the hopper? I do not want to end up with a hopper fire. Thank you all for your help.

Where there's no new replacement air (oxygen) to support combustion there can be no fire.

FS, your fire( you talkin FIRE or red coals w/ a lil flame going, flames not mandatory) should be as far up as the hopper allows (top of fire bricks)--the hopper should be filled every 12 hrs during tending (shaking & topping off hopper) Strikes me you're way over thinking a pretty simplistic stove that was made to eliminate a whole lot of guess work.

Hey FF....in that pic of yours is that a full firebox of coal or would you be able to add more coal in the area in front of the hopper? Looks like there would be room there for more coal but wasn't sure if that would cause damage to the hopper

I think I have it, started a real fire in the Alaska yesterday but I loaded it to soon but it was fine let it burn down below hopper today and the red coal base is about to the top of the fire brick in the front loaded the hopper back up it seems to be doing fine have some flame from the gases burning stove is at about 300 and it is 73 in the house. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.freetown fred wrote:FS, your fire( you talkin FIRE or red coals w/ a lil flame going, flames not mandatory) should be as far up as the hopper allows (top of fire bricks)--the hopper should be filled every 12 hrs during tending (shaking & topping off hopper) Strikes me you're way over thinking a pretty simplistic stove that was made to eliminate a whole lot of guess work.
