Just had Windows decide to do an update. Never asked just took it upon itself. As soon as I rebooted after losing all my files on the desktop I got all my files back along with Avira telling me that PUA/edownloader.Gen had just tried to get in.

Is this a problem with the Windows update do you think? Makes me wish I'd just bought an Apple and bit the bullet on the cost. Lesson learned.

Wipe the slate clean by Installing the latest 'Linux Mint' over the top of it and live happily ever after.

I've always said that if Bill Gates can to my door I'd punch him in the face.

If you run updates manually it's under "optional" updates and unlike other optional updates will be checked. Uncheck it, right click and select hide update.

I'm anti-Bill Gates. He is the largest contributor to Planned Parenthood. That does it for me. That plus the video in which he states that with the proper use of vaccines and a few other choice methods (including Planned Parenthood) we can reduce the worlds population by 15%. That demands the intentional murder of a bit more than 1 billion people, and he is quite openly all for it, and he directly implies that vaccination is going to be part of the program. Plus for bonus points he is convinced that CO2 (emitted no doubt by the 1 billion he wants to eradicate) is killing the planet.

Windows 10 is absolutely the worst operating system yet. Many of my online payments can't be processed despite recommendations of using compability mode. If it wasn't so time consuming I'd reformat my laptop but I don't trust the restore feature. Fortunately and sadly I bought a Microsoft tablet but it came with Windows 8.1 and I won't do any operating system upgrade to Windows 10. As time goes on I will migrate back to Apple systems.

No problems with about 20 or so updates to Windows 10 going from 8.1 to 10

Yesterday I upgraded our laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It took about an hour to download and install, and I did not encounter any problems. It has some nice features and seems to run very well. After reading that any computer with Windows 7 or 8 is eligible for a free upgrade, I dug out the Gateway desktop that someone gave me because they couldn't use Windows 8...and upgraded that to 10 as well. Now I have a nice desktop that runs really nice - and unlike my Linux box, it works great with Netflix and can actually hibernate.

I have to stick in my 2 cents and say I'm all Apple products here, and will never go back. :D
I do have 2 programs that require Windows to run, I have a program on the iMac called Parallels, which creates a virtual machine for Windows XP to run on. It keeps it sequestered so it can't hurt anything. I downloaded a trial version of Windows 10 to try, because once the updates and support for XP ended I was not able to update the Quicken account I run in Windows. I really tried to use Windows 10, ended up deleting it and going back to XP. I just manually update that account now.

Forgot to follow up here. After another reboot all of my files came back to where they were originally, nothing lost that I know of. As for the thing that Avira found it's a part of some program and not necessarily a bad thing IIRC.

I'm liking the Windows 10 the more I play with it. I'm just a slow learner, mostly because I'm older and don't have the same drive to find all the hidden jewels that are offered. I still don't like change though and would have been just as happy with 7 or XP.
