Here in SE Michigan, the first snow of the season is going to be more than 8".. In fact it's about 8" deep right now. I just trudged in from the shop, the snow is up to my shins in most spots. Forecast is for another 3"-5".

Sorry I'm late for breakfast, I was up and out the door early. I went by the Home Depot and picked up the pipe screws for the stove install that's on the schedule for today. We've finally reached the point where our daily temps will not get above 55* so I'll be able to keep the draft without fighting it. For sure the Mark II will get installed; I'm not so sure about the Mark I. That will take a little more effort.

I spent a part of this morning concocting a sugar free BBQ for DK's Thanksgiving Baby Back Ribs. He was diagnosed as pre-diabetes a couple of months ago so he is watching his sugar intake pretty closely. I figured I'd better come up with something before trying it out on the BBack ribs. I used Splenda sugar substitute and Splenda brown sugar mix in the tomato sauce instead of the regular sugars and grilled something I found in the bottom of the freezer. It's technically not sugar free due to the brown sugar but it comes pretty darn close. It tastes good, too.

I was out at the bees hive the other day and noticed something's been chewing on one of them. It's not my dogs 'cause they stay away from the hives. Would raccoon do that kind of damage? How about coyotes? It's inside the fence and we've never had anything else chewed up.

I hope everyone gets something done on their to do list. Happy Thanksgiving
The chewing critter could be a squirrel or a skunk ,skunk's do love eating bee nests.~~~~~~~PLEASE,PLEASE, quit using chemical sweeteners for DK... unless you want him to have more health issues.I sure wish I hadn't used chemical sweeteners for so many yrs. MAPLE SYRUP will not affect the blood sugar,it tastes good,is good for you,the only bad thing is ..$$$,it is expensive, but so is health care.My wife said to sub maple syrup for the syrup & maple sugar for the sugar. We have been using Maple syrup for ?? yrs now with the only side affect being a lighter wallet. :)

Maple syrup is not so good - stop it.

You need to detune the palette, you get used to things not being sweet. There is no other way.

Thanks for the advice on the maple syrup/sugar. Chemical sweeteners wasn't our first choice. I'm thinking that I can get the maple syrup/sugar at the health food store or maybe Trader Joes or Wegmans. If not I'm sure the internet will have a source. Thanks again.

I didn't think about a skunk. We don't see many skunks around here but there are a few. After having thought about it I don't think it was a Coyote - I don't think they are bug eaters. I'm going to spray the area with red pepper. Hopefully, that will stop whatever it is. Lisa

I was diagnosed a prediabetic 5 years ago but refused oral hypoglycemics. A rigorous palette detune took 6 months. I then reintroduced sugar to my diet but it's very carefully measured and now only as complex sugar. I do not miss the higher sugar levels at all. Some things I can never eat again and I do not miss. Other things that I thought ordinary now taste sweet and delicious to me. .... but this is a coal board and you need to do your own research. ALL artificial sweeteners should be thought of as poisons. That is only good to a first approximation but it sets you on the right track. OK, I am bored so I will carry on...

Learn to measure glucose continually:

Keep a diary of bad actors and you will notice how the body repairs itself.

I have been off the boards for a couple of days. My wife had to have emergency surgery on Friday due to bleeding veins in her throat. Touch and go for awhile but she pulled through like a trooper!!! Doc told us she will have to cut back on her activity level for at least 6 months. That thrilled me but got boo looks from her!! I told her she lectured me about cutting back on my level when I had a health turned south moment. Now it's my turn to do the lecturing. She wanted to argue saying I hadn't cut back so I had to go down the list of things I don't do anymore. She finally, begrudgingly, agreed.

She will be in ICU for at least another three days and then step down into a normal room for at least a day before they let her come home. The cat is very upset and won't have anything to do with me at all. He's 18 1/2 and for sure a momma's boy. :D But as along as I keep the coal stove going and keep putting food in his bowl he tolerates me.

Time to start cooking some pies for the church luncheon today. Too bad I won't be there to taste the great food everyone will be bringing. I got a substitute to preach today and pick up the folks I normally get.

I would rather be at the hospital with momma than sitting and eating without her.

Sorry to hear about your wife Larry, Since most Doctors are in it for the $$$ tell your wife to listen to him or Her. If they tell you something that helps you get better without needing to see them again I would definitely listen ;) we wish her a speedy recovery.

Dealing with blood sugar issues since 1979,at the advice of a nutripathic (natural nutrition doctor) we have now used Maple Syrup for many yrs. with absolutely NO blood sugar issues.Forget those charts put out by the same folks who have refined sugar the way it is today, the same folks that gladly sell the chemical sweeteners &are very happy when you need to go on insulin. If you doubt my words on the safety of using maple syrup........ test the idea yourself. Use maple syrup & test your blood sugar. I have already had a FEW yrs of testing behind me now  BUT,i am a simple minded person with ideas like Keep It Sensibly Simple & if it has worked for many yrs already it probably is going to keep working :)
