If the wife doesn't smother you in your sleep first, post some pix of the stove set up. :D

Well here she is a nfpa 211 suggested clearances Glenwood #6, with an over built pad with 24" envelop with 36"to the walls. Well c what the inspector says. He is making me pull another permit for "legal" paperwork for the town hall. Wife is slowly coming around. Gotta find a rocker and a spittoon for the corner.

Poor radiator sitting at room temp in the corner. What did it ever do to you?

The crazy thing is, somebody prolly ripped a stove out of that house (if its old enough) to upgrade to the hydronic system,

I guess well have to get used to it, one of those damned if u do damned if u don't things. I can't afford to rebuild my house with my own nickel and I have a lot of family history in this house. I guess I'm being a worry wort but I can sleep now that I'm covered.

Now the mice chewing on the 40 year old bx wires on the second floor is a different story.

Yep used to be a big coal furnace in the basement, heat ran thru a 3X2 ft grate in the living room from when she was built in 1923 till 1952 when the big old refrigerator sized American standard boiler was installed.

I hear ya, I've been known to overbuild a hearth before to exceed code. That's awesome that you're keeping the house in the family. Nice job!

I don't know if NFPA 54 has any bearing but I have a copy and will scan any page anyone needs.

Jeff,
How can we tell if it has bearing, if you don't ? :D

How does it relate to hand fed stoves ?

It doesn't have anything to do with solid fuel; NFPA 54, ANSI Z223.1 provides minimum safety requirements for the design and installation of fuel gas piping systems in homes and other buildings.

There are some venting things in there and some mentions of solid fuel relating to not sharing the same flue as other fuels.

I just offered it because I know people wouldn't spend the money on it and if I can look something up for anyone, I'm happy to do it.

Ok the inspector says I'm a good to go after I get the building permit filled out and fork over the dough.
He turned the corner into my living room and said "wow were did u find this thing"in amazement.

He didn't even pull out a tape to check my clearances. So after a bunch of small talked I asked about the stoves that he had a list of to compare for clearances. He said they were ul rated stoves he was gonna compare and he chuckled and stated since ul is after 81 he's not gonna find one to compare to mine from 1906. He said since I'm ul exempt we have to go buy nfpa 211 code and he said I could cut clearances via shields per guidelines.

So that was my nite I shut the oil off and getting the G6 back up too temp. Just in time for the highs on the low 60s this weekend 8-)
