Yes it was. Speaking of viewing door, I was considering making a stove glass insert so I can use this door and look at the pretty fire.

As I watched the video last nite,i was hoping that you would see the hole in the door the same way that I was ,....as a good place for glass, no need to purchase another door that way. :)

I've been so busy that I must have forgot to post photos of the doors!

Fire door with oil gun attachment hole.

Air scoop and aquastat. The aquastat might still work. It's a good thing to keep around just in-case the boiler needs to be installed on the cheap (like they always do).

Shoot, your right W.H.

I could just make a square frame and get a small piece of stove glass, gasket it on there, done!

I could even put it on my current GJ for some aw sum fire veiwing!

Well I really shouldn't be doing this today, there is other work to be done but I couldn't resist! It was quick and easy to remove a few fittings and add valves and a gauge.

Pressured it up to just below 40 PSI and 110 degrees.
SmallGJpressureTest1 007.JPG

Looks good so far. The DHW plate isn't dripping and the boiler is holding pressure. With 110 degree water the pressure will drop as it cools. With it being outside it will cool quickly.

The firebox roof.

The back plate that isolates the bottom of the firebox from the flyash trap took a beating from the oil gun! It's warped and a bit thin.
SmallGJpressureTest1 008.JPG
.JPG | 143.1KB | SmallGJpressureTest1 008.JPG
This is the other side of it looking up from the bottom of the flyash trap into the two wet plates in the back of the boiler.
SmallGJpressureTest1 018.JPG
.JPG | 178.8KB | SmallGJpressureTest1 018.JPG
Also in these photos of the inside, you can see the crap stuck to the inside. This is coal ash, coal and clinkers that are just glued onto the steel because of the oil residue. YUK!!! And this is after a fair amount of cleaning with hot hot water.

Small GJ-51 Pressure Test === PASS!

It was pretty cold here last night so after the boiler temp got down to 80 degrees the pressure had dropped to 28 PSI. At that point I pumped it up to about 44 PSI. When I checked it at about 0630 this morning it was 32 PSI. It was still 32 PSI when I drained it at about 1300 this afternoon.

No sign of any leaks. I keep hitting the DHW coil nuts with PB Blaster in the vain hope that they won't brake!

I tipped it up on one corner and gave it a good flushing.

Looks like we have a good pressure vessel!

I wonder if the baffle makes it work any better?

I would think so, like the baffle plate or plates on an EFM.

It sure needs something to help the gas path. Without a baffle, the heat just goes up from the fire pot, down to the bottom in back then up the back exhaust passage. It doesn't seem to be a very efficient design. Gas path wise, It's nothing like my other GJ.

Well there it is. Once I get the BairMatic hooked up and running in the basement I can start on this one.

In looking at this boiler and the one that NEU has a thread on, This boiler doesn't have a steam chest, does it?
The top of the firebox is arched all the way to the back, just like the top of the outside.
GJ5 010.JPG
.JPG | 169.9KB | GJ5 010.JPG
If that is so, I wonder where the DHW coil goes?
GJ5 008.JPG
.JPG | 146.1KB | GJ5 008.JPG
There can't be much room behind that DHW cover plate, the firebox is right on the other side. Maybe it just takes a very small DHW coil?

SD, My International boiler looks just like this too. The DHW plate and bolt pattern looks identical. When I took it apart there was a 20' ( or looked that long ) coil of soft 3/4'' copper coiled up on top of the fire arch.
Works great, I never see a dip in the hot water temp.
