the 2 cords would be 40 amps wouldnt it? cuz I have 4 plugs, 2 at 20 amp each, and one 30 amp tt-30r plug..windyhill4.2 wrote:The whole point is that 2 -4 cords will plug into the regular receptacles on the generator, that is where the 2x15=30 comes from. A 12-3 is perfectly capable of 20 amps, but is only rated at 15 amps because many people act stupid with cords, like using 2) 100' 12-3 cords plugged into each other to make a 200' cord and then still expect to pull 15 amps or more. TOPTOP,please look at all the cords you use on appliances or anything,ck their rating/load according to the breaker size + keep in mind, hotblast has an elcheapo 110volt,3600 watt generator that cost him $200. ~~ NOW you guys want him to spend several hundred to hook up to the elcheapo generator that will be for light duty ,occasional use. Besides, how many amp does the whole heating system & a few lites add up to ?? PS.- I can trip a 20 amp breaker easily with my 12-3 ,100' cord without the cord heating up at all. How hotblast spends his $$ is totally up to him to decide, but I fail to see the point of putting $200 racing tires on a $350 lawn tractor.
well the modine is 1.3 amps, the pump is .75, and combustion fan is very little, idk exactly, my furnace plenum fan might draw some, but I wouldnt think over 5 amps, and I would be running led lights so very minimal amps for those too, im not worried about tripping breakers or burning electrical cords, I just figured if I where to string up 100 feet of extension cord through the basement, then why not staple up 100 feet of romex 12-2, its 52 dollars a 100 foot. and put a gang of outlets at the end of it, or if I put in a transfer switch then just wire it to that.
