As long as the rear damper is open you shouldn't have any ash coming out of the front door when adding coal and shaking down. I can shake my Chubby down with the door open and no ash will come out. Any fly ask gets sucked right on up the ole chimney.
On Ebay a coupe of people sell some nice size aluminum ice scoops for short money. Sometimes we also have them in stock as well. They are perfect for using if you prefer to fill from the top. Though I think most Chubby people have some kind of humidifier sitting on top of their Chubby or big ole kettle of something being cooked making it rather hard to use the top lid for adding coal.
If you like to baked potatoes try making some in your Chubby. Place them on the edge of the firepot up against the barrel. mmm mmmm gooooooood! Be sure check out the "blizzard food" section on chubbystove.com and coming soon we plan to add a Chubby Stove user recipe section as well.
I love Truro. Nice Town. You still have more options for coal on the South Shore and Cape than we do on the North Shore. Though there should be more coal sellers.....
