Stoker Coal Boiler: keystoker

Post by jmkmachining » Wed. Dec. 02, 2015 6:49 pm

Looking for a little guidance from the more experienced. I just hooked up a keystoker an new to burning coal an I don't think the convection blower is operating correctly. I tried doing my own searching but came up empty so hopefully someone here can help. The stove is running off a wall mounted thermostat which is brand new. The limit switches are 120-160-200. At a full burn for about 45 minutes to an hour I get about 2 to 3 inches of ash on the tray. The stove reaches the 160 temp convection blower kicks on drops it to the 120 temp an the blower shuts off. which would be right but what I am wondering about is the blower is only on for about 20 seconds an it goes from 160 to 120. Is that correct or should it take longer? Is the thermostat inside the stove faulty? How long should the convection blower run normally to drop it from the 160 to the 120 mark? Thanks for any help.. I'm starting to see my hair line thinning....

that sounds about right, you can always move the lower setting up a little so I comes on later after the stove get hotter. it will cycle on and off depending on the stove temperature. If it's not really hot, it will cycle a bit until the stove gets really warm, then it should stay on longer.

At full burn when its calling for heat and been burning a while, you should have about 1" of ash or less with the feed adjusted correctly. as long you're not pushing hot coals off the end, you can increase the feed maybe 1/2 turn at a time and let it catch up. if you start pushing hot coals off, back the feed screw down.

Post a pic of your setup and then we can see if anything else needs checked.

Do you have a power vent or regular chimney? Baro Damper? etc....
