I can just picture that once the coal is going, with the front cover removed and the coal banked up to the top of the liner, glowing red with blue ladies dancing on top. Mesmerizing !!!! ;)

Thanks Paul ! If the wife didn't spend the last two weeks , cleaning and decorating for Christmas. you are making me consider making an adaptor plate for the family room fireplace, and taking it upstairs now !!

I'm not sure I want to take the risk this clock to the holidays. :D

The boss has spoken ........ There is no way she is letting me rip apart the upstairs fireplace until the man cave is finished. :hammer:

Quote from the boss ...." If you really want to burn this fireplace ....... Take it and your Yule log, outside or ............... Build another chimney in your Man Cave"

Hmmmmm I wish I got that on tape, but that sure sounds like permission to me!

Update.

My 1892 penny was delivered yesterday, and I put it in last night. Yep, I think that was just what it needed.

Thanks my friend, I had a mantel up the shop that was a surround from a free standing gas fireplace.

I started by cutting it down so it only extends 7" into the room.

The existing coal bin access will have to be enlarged and framed out with some steel in order to recess the insert, and center the fireplace.

Got the block cut out today and the two front supports cut and jacked in. Just have to cut and fit the back ones and weld them up.

I picked up a dozen or so new zero clearance wood burning fireplaces on our last job. Most of them are dual view see thru, but I may have a single that will work. It may be easier to just laser out some plate and weld up a custom one to fit the insert.

Ok ....I have my plan in place. This summer, I will cut into the side of my existing basement chimney , and set two additional flue pipes below my stoker thimble.

This will enable me to come out of the back of the first flue and connect the insert. On the next section down I can install a well needed ash clean out door.

The Merry Bride base burner and the fireplace are only going to be used in the shoulder months. I also have the option of moving the stoker to the other side of the room and installing a power vent.

I cut out and installed an outside access door and worked on building my room around the stoker this week. If all goes well, and my back holds out, I should have the wall finished tomorrow. :D

Yes my friend, unfortunately it is. At one time I enjoyed doing concrete and stone work, but as the years roll by my fondness for it diminished quick. Forty years ago , I would have put the two walls up in a day ....... Tomorrow will be my 4th day on it

Well, kinda. Dunno if the rest of my body would take it either. I've been off work just a few days shy of a year now due to a back injury.
