So I finally decided to light up the Chubby in the basement this past Sunday morning. My new chimney is just about done, just some exterior stone work and the upstairs hearth left.
The Chubby I used last year was a rear vent, non-blower model, which I ran last winter at a steady 600 degrees for a few months. It made decent heat but it wasn't anything to brag about. This winter, I now have a top vent Chubby with a blower. All I can say is HOT. With that blower on, I can't even believe it is the same stove. I've been running the stove at 400 and the basement is nothing short of stifling and I'm also getting more heat upstairs than I've ever been able to get before. Simply unbelievable!
I should have the floor ready for the G8 by the end of next week but, with all this heat, I'm not sure I'll bother to get the base heater lit until it gets much, much colder.

Sounds the same as my set up A G6 on the first floor and a Chubby in the basement.

I also have my Chubby in the basement , as long as the temps don't get into the teens it does just fine. I have my wood stove in the flue beside the Chubby for when the rely cold weather comes. It was in the teens this past Saturday nite . Upon waking Sunday the first floor living area was just 66 . I got a small fire in Wood stove in addition to the Chubby . Needless to say , it became much to warm . 100' in basement , 88 in living room. I think this setup will be great when the nasty weather gets here . YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT A CHUBBY!

FF,
'Back in the day'- I fell in love with legs. Fred, bricks ain't legs!
I have an old box stove(wood burner) that I think I'm going to move the legs to the Chubby after this burn season. That will move it off the floor about 10". Plan 'B' is bricks.
Cheers

If you were to replace the chubby and wood stove with the G8, you probably won't need 2 stoves.
But if you have a 1st floor chimney, you could put decorative wood stove with a big picture window there, so can can watch some logs burning for aesthetics.

Happy to see you got the Chubby fired up! I haven't really fired mine up yet as the outside temps just aren't cooperating.. YET.. I am sure Mother Nature will pay us back for the mild weather with a good heavy dose of Arctic weather sooner or later. Just like last year.
As always if you need any help just ask!
