You and Otto should split a delivery when you get low. I'm from Lancaster and last year bought from Franklin Kreider or Garman's. $210. all sizes as season began. If you need bags there's an Amish stove shop on rt 10 a few miles W of 896. He oils it to keep dust to a minimum and hardly any fines. Last year it was $6.50 per 50 lb bag. Rave reviews from a friend. But Im sure there are closer options.thanks

I bought 5 tons this year, and I'm running a LL Lil heater and barely use 40 lbs. a day when the weather is as cold as it was the last few days. If I was to buy bulk I would have to build a bin for the coal, but for right now I waiting to see exactly how much I'm going to use in a season, it might be worth it to buy it in the bags as I did this year. I think it might be worth thinking about asanother option.

Same here. I'm in extreme NE MD. Been super busy with work, finishing up my degree and refurbishing an old boat.

Like you, I bring my coal down from PA due to price/quality. You can find it in DE but have to Ben Dover. Hey, who was the member who was building his own boat in the back yard? He was from Smyrna IIRC.
Hi Belgianburner,
I'm the one building and living on a houseboat heated by a Franco-Belge .
A warning to all: Not only change batteries on your smoke detectors but, also check the expiration dates on your Carbon Monoxide detectors and replace if necessary. I learned the lesson the hard way in January while sleeping on the boat with the stove running. I had a headache and nausea but the CO detector readout was normal and there was no alarm. It turns out, the detector was about 10 years old and was no longer functional; it almost cost me big time! The gasket on the hopper lid had shifted and was allowing fumes into the living area. Never had that problem before.
As far as the boat goes, I have not done much work on it over the last year. I have been distracted by the most unlikely of distractions: a girlfriend! She is beautiful and kind and loving; I am a lucky fellow but, I miss working on and living in my boat. I must find a way to strike a balance!
Happy Holidays to all, and stay safe.

The point that this story should drive home to all
Have more than 1 detector !!
Buy them at different times so they are not the same age.

I bought 5 tons of bagged Lehigh rice from the Mills of Whitemarsh, delivered for about $238 ton. That was June and had to wait for delivery in August when their order came in. Byler's no longer carries coal, Tractor Supply doesn't carry any kind of inventory and the quality of coal is terrible. I'm running the LL stoker, the hand fired Comfort max 75, I still have a ton go nut coal and plenty of wood. If you buy bulk from the Mills, I think you still have to pick up yourself or get a trucking company, or get it from PA.

I purchase from the coal man and he delivers to me. I usually get 5 -7 ton a yr . Im not exactly what it was this year but its usually somewhere in the $230/ ton range. I was considering getting a dumptruck load to make it cheaper. If I had a way to store that much I would.
