Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Hitzer 82 FA

Finally made it back to post!

Just moved back to Ohio (was born here), bought a 3,880 sqft house with a full uninsulated basement.

There was a Hotblast model 1557 that looks like it was abused. Last week installed a Hitzer 80 FA furnace, replace the hotblast and ducted to cold air return.

My heat pump could not keep up without using the electric heaters.

Anyways, this Hitzer is awesome. Took a day or so to catch up (house was cold). Now I am enjoying 76F in main living area. The guys at work think I am nuts going with coal. I love it!

Just saying hi :)

Glad to hear the Hitzer is doing the job. Do you have the hitzer 82 FA, I can't seem to find an 80. Are you using Bituminous or Anthracite coal?

Yes, the hitzer 82 FA. Using anthracite but, reading 40lb plastic bags. Plan on building a coal bin next year to buy bulk.

Funny thing, my coal dealer and hitzer dealer (same man) is an Amish guy with a small store out in the middle of nowhere half a mile from me :)

Yea, Richmond looks to be about 15 miles as per Google maps.

Trying to baby this thing back. Looks to be working. OK, I cheated and used small matchless lite charcoal. That still count?

Creek44, you also in oil/gas ?
