Iraq Spinning Out Of Control....Again!

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Thousands of supporters of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr marched in Baghdad on Thursday to protest against a three-day-old crackdown against his followers and call for the downfall of the U.S.-backed government.
More than 100 people have been killed and hundreds wounded since the government launched its crackdown in the southern city of Basra on Tuesday. Clashes have split Iraq's majority Shi'ite community and shattered a ceasefire declared last year by Sadr

Add to that, things are so bad that we will be stopping the withdrawal of our GI's (who are now really needed in Afganistan) this summer & keeping them on the bullseye in Iraq until GW Bush is able to climb out the Oval Office window next January, when his term is mercifuly up, & leave the middle east mess to his sucessor.
American GI's are being killed at a faster rate this month, our economy is spiraling down towards .....who knows where it will stop, gasoline & heating oil are unaffordable, our jobs are in China, our military/Nat'l Guard are at the breaking point, our homes are losing their value & being forclosed on while this administration backstops it's rich buddies only, my tax money is being spent in Iraq while my Grandchildren's school is begging parents to donate pencils & on & on!
How anyone can defend the worst Presidency in the history of this nation is just beyond me!

The Iraqi military is being tested & we will see how they do. American forces are not being used, they are sitting back & observing. The enemy is stepping up the violence before General Petraeus speaks to congress & you play right into their hands.

No I was not in the military or law enforcement. When I turned 18 the Vietnam war had ended. What I did do was build the American dream for families.

Your title would have been more appropriate if it read "Iraqi's step up and start to take control of their country" . All news I've read of this so far is Iraqi forces attempting to rout out the undesirables, what is so wrong with that?

I apologise for getting a bit testy Richard, but it is not just Iraqi soldiers who are increasingly under fire & being killed. This month we have had more GI's killed than in any month for the past 6 months & our embassy was just rocketed a few hours ago.....in the alledgedly safe Green Zone.

Violence is to be expected to continue at least for the foreseeable future, probably for years to come. However as long as the downward trend continues over the long haul I wouldn't start yelling the sky is falling.

Just realized those numbers include non-combat deaths too (illness, drowning, vehicle accident were 3 on I saw). Small percentage of total though.

Look, all the news is pointing to an increase in violence in Iraq in the last few days. I hope this trend doesn't continue but I fear it will. Only time will tell so we'll have to wait & see.

Then my opinion is that, since you have had no miltary or law enforcement experience or done anything dangerous at all in defense of your country that your pro-war arguments deserve the same weight as someone spouting off recomendations on heating with coal who has never even touched a coal stove but has just "seen" them in brochures.
Even though the Vietnam War was over you still could have chosen to serve your country in the peacetime army or law enforcement or even the Peace Corps. Did you? (& if not, why not?)
