I'm planning a road trip to look at a Flirt # 12. Any one using one of these stoves or have any experience with one ? Any info on heating capacity or problems I should look for would be appreciated.

Looks to be relatively rare. Can't seem to find any info on it. Doesn't appear to be a base heater. Maybe a good looking parlor stove.?

She's pretty small only 51 inches high so the area it would heat might be limited. I've got a small house so this may not be an issue. The Baker box stove I'm currently using is overkill for my needs. I don't think I ever get it hot enough to burn as it should.

The Rose and Flirt stoves (Gilbert foundry which was a MA operation or some name like that but don't quote me on that) are cute, well made but have small fireboxes (8-10") and so a 12" is rare, so I would class them as parlor stoves. They are not base heaters. It all comes down to what you are heating ... that info would help us help you. My guess is you will enjoy it very much - cute as a button. The outside looks great the best looking example I have seen from that foundry but make sure the firebox is complete and in equally good condition. Does it have a back pipe as that will add 20%+ to heat output and efficiency. Send pics when you install.

My house is small, probably 800 sq. ft. I started burning coal with a Petite Godin. It worked well as long as the temp was above 20 degrees. If it got colder than that , It needed help. 12 in firebox Flirt should be fine, I think.

Here is an old photo of a flirt stove. This might help to give you a size perspective of the stove.

Randy
Edit: I am thinking this is the smaller size this stove came in.

I don't know Randy, but this pic doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I mean, look at the poor guy. Do you really need to get that close to be warm? Or did he just fire it up with "Matchlight", and is testing the temp on it? :D

No, he is President of the company and if the stove was alight and cranking, the carpet would catch fire and his hand would be burned off. :D

Don't pick on the poor old guy, it was probably the depression and could only afford a little coal. :D This is what I pictured myself looking like when I get older, that's why I use it as my avatar.
