Thanks for the compliments. I'll try and get my butt moving on the install.
Grob, how long does a manufacturer have to continue making spare parts? I'm pretty sure in the automotive industry its 15 or more years.

Spoke with two manufacturers and both said they were not aware of any regulation or law requiring them to manufacture parts but the one stated that they would always manufacture parts for no longer produced models as there commitment to there customers.

Yes indeed Great find Turbogeno! You'll be amazed by the heat this model squeezes out of a pound of coal not to mention the versatility.Hambden Bob wrote:Wait till Vig2PeaBurner gets wind of this Whopper ! Nice Score !
Glenn, I might be nuts here but I'm hoping that one of the "two manufacturers" was VC?grobinson2 wrote:Spoke with two manufacturers and both said they were not aware of any regulation or law requiring them to manufacture parts but the one stated that they would always manufacture parts for no longer produced models as there commitment to there customers.

One was VC but they were not the one who said they would make parts for discontinued stoves.

VC (now actually HNI) most surly will produce parts (this is what they do and what their great at), you may not know where there coming from and how low the manufacture costs will get but even if they drive ALL R & D and ANY new products/improvement's or quality into the dirt... they WILL produce parts (its what they are best at and specialize in).grobinson2 wrote:One was VC but they were not the one who said they would make parts for discontinued stoves.

HNI is a large corporation which should produce the parts we need. The foundry in Randolph Vt. is safe for now. I got my Vig in the house yesterday. I had to get it up 7 steps to the front porch but a come-along and some stout planks made that easy. I need shorter legs and will head to the hardware store soon to get the parts to make them.

Geno,
The stock 8" legs can be cut down. Don't ask me how, but that's what I got with mine (4.5").

It is so beautiful in that color!!! Congrats on your awesome find. I just got a used one 2 days ago. needs some work but so happy. you had mentioned in the beginning of your post that the previous owner said it was slow starting ect and you knew why. I seem to be having the same issue and I was hoping to see if you could tell me your hypothesis. I have recieved some awesome advice this morning from a member. cleaned it all out checked every inch but I have the ash pan wide open and the flap in the back wide open, and have the damper wide open. the wood portion of the fire sucks/drafts like a animal as soon as I add coal it crackles and spits begins to light then just dies out like there is now no draft grrrrrr 41 degrees here in nh and rainy should be ok ive burned in warmer temps with my Penn and my Morso. again congrats on your purchase and thanks for any advice you may have

So Good to see the Vigilant II Mafia in full bloom on a Sunday Night ! Maybe You Desperados could come up with a standard fabricated design for the short legs to share if they become burdensome to aquire. I dunno, just a thought........

Hambden Bob: I'll need the long legs to make code. More to come later.
johnfranciskeating: The probable hard starting/running the previous owner had was that the bit plate was installed in the rear lower left corner below the grates. If your ash pan door and the bypass damper are open the bit plate doesn’t come into play. Maybe your not letting the coal get started enough before you close the door and damper? Is your chimney clean? Leaks in the stove somewhere? I've never run mine yet but I’m getting close. My hand fired stove experience is minimal.
The second picture is where I’m at so far with my install. Maybe next weekend I’ll fire it up.
