The threads are plastic, the nut is very thin metal with about 1 or 1-1/2 threads. Gotta be VERY careful and particular putting the nut on, especially past the plastic tabs.

It holds well, but I used a pair of needle nose when it tried to cross thread and found turning the housing while installing the nut kept it the straightest. Not too bad, but gotta be careful.

I shortened the pigtails, then used a razor knife to cut the insulation where I wanted to remove it and pulled and twisted the approx 1" of insulation off to avoid breaking the wire and leave it with a nice twisted stub for adding to the circulator wires in the wiring nut.

I didn't see a polarity, but each one worked the first time. I'm used to being more careful with DC and soldering, but these with 120v and premade pigtails and the panel housing were no-brainers :)

I have to hook something up to the heat lamp in the pump house to know if it goes out for a very similar reason :)

You're right about making things really simple with a bell or whistle. Light on= good. Light off=bad.

Looks great!

On the upside, when you show off your system to friends who don't understand or appreciate the plumbing, zones, draft balance, etc, they'll still be impressed. Lights=High Tech=Cool toothy
