:(
Grates jammed on the stove this morning, managed to get them moving.

My membership in the one match club is done for this year.

Grates are jammed again. Happened on the first move of the shaking lever. I dislodged whatever it is when it jammed this morning, but I can't get it free again. I was poking around from under the grates tonight, but the stove started to overfire, so I gave up.

Not adding any more coal, if it's out tomorrow night I'll empty it.

Probably is a stone.

I know the stove well enough by now. It 's gotta go out and be emptied.

At least I'll find out why it's stuck.

Last yr was our first yr to burn coal,we lit our stove on Nov. 1 & left it die in early April when our coal got all & our repair shop work load went crazy. This season, we have lit it multiple times & left it go out because of the warm outside temps. We currently have it lit,& are once again eyeing the warm temps forecast later this week.It is not crucial to have the stove for heat as the EFM is very capable of the job. The stove is a wonderful WARM spot for us tho.

Better to use two matches, than to overfire. You made the right decision. :)

Wood n coal, what brand coal are you using?

Still on my first lite so far. This batch of coal I'm using this year isn't clinkering or have any shale. I might be able to do one match, we'll see.

I have let mine go out twice now because of warm spells. I wanted to make it in the one match club this year too but hey, there's always next year.

Don't feel bad, you are not alone. This year when I fired up couldn't get near the draft that I thought should be there; So I let the boiler go out, removed the pipe & looked for anything that I may have missed in Spring, or maybe a mouse nets. Guess what, everything was clean. Musta just been the warmer temps reducing the draft. Oh well better safe than sorry.

With this crazy weather I didn't even try this year. I've let the boiler go out and relit 3 times so far. And this week we are forecast to have 60's again so it's going out again this week.

The only reason I kept mine idling thru warm spells was to prevent corrosion on my new stove pipe lol. Also I suppose it helped heat my domestic hot water a little.
