Hi All, thanks so much for this forum!! This is my 3rd stove. 1st is a Morso Coal, my latest was a Penn Coal Stove. and I got a steal on what I believe to be is a Vigilant II ($300) Picture to come. I have read through the post that came in over the last week from Turbogeno. Im going to take the stove apart today. Some issues I think might be lending to the "slow start, Slow burn" no handle/locking unit on front doors (ordering today) I have the ash pan wide open and the flap on the back side wide open and it does not seem to draft from the bottom or draft at all. no other stove did this so I of course have to look at this stove. The penn used to get tooo hot with it wide open so I must be doing something wrong. Wife was a big fan of the Penn and if I don't get this thing working as I know it should there is going to be trouble around these parts  Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can provide.. John Keating

You are missing the bi-metal thermostat that regulates the back flap.

In the picture the damper handle is in the wrong position for starting.

Check for cleanout covers and clean behind them.

Shaker handle?

Hi Franco, Thanks for your reply!!! shaker handle and new rod for shaker grate ordering today. the picture you reference is the left side there is just a metal plate there. ill take a peak under it. yes in that picture the damper handle was closed. I did have it wide open when I was getting it started. I will clean out the "clean out covers" Thanks again for the help!! Ill let everyone know how that worked Thanks again

You need the thermostat as well. Look in manual.

That would contribute.

Buy a tube of Williams stove polish and a brush used for applying shoe polish.

Inspect the seams outside and using a flashlight see if light penetrates through, or if with a wood fire see if smoke or a match flame gets pulled in any seams.

Thanks so Much again Franco!!!!! I will. I vacuumed her all out, definitely needed it. lol Glad to fin the rod was not to hard to replace. I can shake her just with a set of pliers. will be so easy when I get all the pieces to make her 100%. It was a blessing to get this caliber of stove so cheap. Santa was awesome LOL!! I will be going to get some Pea today. all I have right now is nut with a little stove thrown in. The door is definitely an issue I can see the fire right through the top middle section so its grabbing air from the top. I will do the match test asap. to check all the other places. Thanks again for all your advice sir!! I greatly appreciate it. :D :D :D
