2016? Another year! Happy New Year to all.
Come on in. The coffee is hot & home fries & eggs are near the fry pan. Someone flipped the winter switch on Tuesday & the long Spring we've had came to an abrupt end. 8" of dense snow followed with a 1/4" of ice made the roads a mess for three days. High temps around 20 didn't help a thing. I fired the Axeman Anderson the day of the snow. It's been keeping us warm, but is having an odd issue. I think I'll mention it outside the coffee room.
Linda has been here since Monday. She ignored the Garmen GPS & stayed ahead of the snow. Last time it took her on a very odd route. We saw in New Years with a couple of friends, then yesterday had a pork roast and sauerkraut feast with Cuz Chris, Eloise & Renata. Renata made the best ever German layer cake. I'm not sure what it was, but it wasn't chocolate & wasn't Graham cracker. Here's a photo of the cake & also one of the roast.
I hope you all had a great week & wish you 52 more!

Good morning Freddy, you just made me really hungry. That German layer cake looks like a raspberry hazelnut torte. They originated in the Black Forest where they did not have a lot of wheat flour. They did have a lot of hazelnuts so they ground the nuts into flour consistency. The eggs and home fries smell delicious, I hope you have a really nice new year.

Whatever kind of cake that is, I would sure like to try some of it. Probably all gone by now though.

That's the kind of cake I'd take a slice 3/4 of the pan wide. Looks GOOOOD!!
We're at 25° this morning. Got snow a few days back that's still on the ground as hard crust. Had some ice buildup - was looking like another repeat of '08 there for a bit .. but it eventually stopped raining/misting, and the sun melted the ice. Haven't got out of the 30's since this front came, and we're headed to the teens Monday night, and single digits Tuesday morning. Winter is here, unfortunately. Just glad I got the truck and trailer Fluid Flimed, and the snow tires on, just in the nick of time.
Last couple months is the slowest I've been in years. Got a few things to do today though. A couple saws, a generator, a leaf blower, and a set of truck tires. Up and down like a yo-yo ...
Can't believe it's friggin 2016. I remember watching the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" and thinking, "Wow ... I can't imagine what 2001 will be like - that's an eternity away!" Now it's 15 years in the past. Crazy! Never could've dreamed our own government would be doing the things they're doing either ... but that's a topic for another section.
GPS ... oh boy don't even get me started Freddy!! Those damn stupid things!! Got my first GPS in '13 - bought the latest & greatest with all the bells and whistles. Didn't take but one trip to figure out, this dumb electronic device should NEVER be used as a substitute for good MANUAL route planning. This thing has taken me places that defy logic. For example, while hauling my buddy's car to FL, we were in a town that I have been driving through since I got my license. The GPS wanted me to take a right, instead of going 100' farther up around a corner, and taking a left on the next road. The road I took comes out on that same main road a few hundred feet away. So I get to the end, it tells me to take a right and make a u-turn, then head back down the road I just came from ... and cross over the other main road and continue straight! WTF ... so like an idiot against my better judgement, I followed it like a sheep to the slaughter. Took me down one of THE WORST roads in the entire state!! And THAT'S sayin' something!! I had to do 3 MPH to avoid losing my suspension. The exhaust on the car I was hauling fell down. Then when I get out on the next road, the GPS tells me to take a right, bringing us right back where we could've gone earlier, except 1.5 miles out of the way!!! I seriously almost threw the POS out the window in a rage. So mad!!!!
Now I just plan my route on Mapquest or Google Maps, write down the turns on a Post-It note, and ignore the GPS. No matter how you set the preferences, it still occasionally will take you ways that defy logic. Seems to always want to route me through every ghetto in America. Sure makes you wonder who programs these electronic demons ...
I do like seeing my max speed displayed though. That's always entertaining.
Anyway ... time to get my ass in gear here. Ya'll have a great day!

Max speed is always a good one to see! 110 near Bonneville is appropriate, for sure!SMITTY wrote:That's the kind of cake I'd take a slice 3/4 of the pan wide. Looks GOOOOD!!

Sittin' over in the corner at the kid's table.............................
Now that the stove has been going, have been making tea with honey in the mornings instead of coffee using the stove top pot --- very convenient!
Wishing all a Happy, prosperous and healthy New Year.

From nowhere we sink to 7* Mon/Tues. Perhaps my plans to turn the #8 into a wine cooler are premature. Time to dig into my nut pile for the first time this winter. Off to Country Dream Kitchen for a artery clogging breakfast as the wife is in CA. Nobody piles on the grease like these guys do. Wipe the empty plate with a napkin and bring it home. Forget JD corn head grease.

In the wee hours of the morning we hit 21 degrees here. About as cold as it has been here so far this winter. It appears that our winter of warmth is beginning to fade into a more normal winter from here forward.
As odd as it sounds, and with many of us (myself included) not remembering such a winter within our lifetimes, a local weather broadcast I listened to on the way to work a few days ago indicated that it is only the 4th warmest winter on record (to date) here, and therefore not a record.

Happy New Year,
It seems that winter has arrived here as well. The temperature got down to 30* overnight. The Marks brothers didn't even blink at the extra effort. After all these years I still find myself "grinning like a Jack ass eating briers" when I think of my coal stoves.
Still no baby - the due date wasn't until Monday anyway but ... My daughter was given the choice to induce last week but decided not to. There is no medical reason to induce. My daughter figures she'll let Felicity have the final word as to when she'll make her appearance. It's probably the last time she'll have total control of a situation in her lifetime.
It's back to work for me Monday. We had a great holiday season; I hope everyone else did to. Take care, Lisa
