Can't Get Temp Higher
Hi I posted on here around Thanksgiving when I first light my stove and got some great advise I have a magnafire elite and I put a mpd in bc I wasn't getting a lot of heat into my house after I put the damper in all was going great nice and warm , now all of a sudden I can't seem to get my stove temp up and stay up I'm opening the spinner on the stove more than ever and it doesn't seem to be doing much I'm a lil afraid to leave it open 3-4 turns bc in the past 1 turn made the stove run jus fine any input would be greatly appreciated and happy new year to all

Get a poker and clear the grates from the underside. My bet is there is accumulated ash that never gets cleared when shaking. What does the coal bed look like and are you burning less coal than before?

Ash Bound? Fly ash in stove pipe? Those would be my two guesses. That's where I'd start.

Tell us how you blocked off the original fireplace damper where the added SS liner passes down through into the insert.

Yep, check & clear anything horizontal you can get at. Plus poking.

Now that's a horse of a different color--did you clean stainless lately?? How long has it been there? Just since Nov??

Not about confidence, we all let things go sometimes & startin w/ the obvious gets things narrowed down to find a solution.

is this a square/rectangular firebox? if so, really need to poke all four corners, and around all edges(every 4" or so)... stick 90* poke rod down and just shake it mildly, so ash drops without disturbing fire bed(orange coal bed in center of box). then after that, add a small amount of new coal, primarily around edges of burn box(weight) to put weight on ashes, shake grates violently(real short choppy strokes, jerk off like) for about 5> 10 seconds. wait about 20 minutes, check fire bed, should be a bit hotter, brighter burn, if ash is cleared well. I do poke actual main fire bed itself every other day to get ash out under it. When I do, recover times are slower to recover.. but it will recover. increase under fire draft another half turn or so when doing full bed poke, but do go back an hour or so later to turn back to normal draft setting per outside temp/draft conditions.

You might have a bunch of unburnable clinkers in your stove taking up space and making shaking down the ash a pain in that ***. My stove had that happen to me just last week.
I allso had my clean out cap blow off out side the house it was a through the wall chimmny connect piece in my first year of burning had me stumped for a while.
Cheers

DK, I'm tryin to figure what brand insert-HItzer I'm guessin--503??-I'm still thinkin a good shaking & poking like stated before will at least eliminate one suggestion. No probably not on cleanin the stainless--but I still wonder on your stainless connection to the stove--T?? 90*?? that MIGHT be clogged more then it needs to be. Ya been idling lately? BUT, start w/ the shaking & poking and keep us posted on progress.
