I've been 100% LED since 2012 at home (roughly 50 lamps). There is an issue with RF interference for sure. One garage door opener won't work with the radio transmitter when all of the kitchen lights are on but the other openers don't care.
Haven't had a single failure or other issue with the LEDs as far as performance though.

I've only got 2 LED devices. One is an conversion / upgrade, and the other is a work light in the barn.

I had to convert the piece of *censored* CFL wall pack motion light I had for the past 8 years. Those damn CFL's are USELESS when the temp goes below 50°. Right now it's 11° out - the thing would light up PURPLE if triggered, and then achieve full brightness a millisecond before it shut off. Dumb! Converted to LED, which cost 50% of what I paid for the damn thing to begin with, but was cheaper than replacing the whole thing. In hindsight I probably should've removed and sold the wall pack, and then bought an LED wall pack to replace it ... but that ship has sailed. The LED is SUPER BRIGHT no matter what the temp is outside. -15° or 115°, it produces the same, white light.

Yeah, I agree about CREE LED's - they're some of the best LED's made today. In fact, that wall pack conversion contains CREE LEDs.

Yes, CFLs are really bad at lower temperatures. They also aren't really intended to be switched off. They'll last forever and stay bright when left on, but that defeats the whole purpose they supposed to be marketed for...

I too have started converting over to LED's. Started with the pole light out by the garage. Decent light but didn't give a large enough radius to get to the other end of the garage so I installed a wall light as well. Both still run cheaper than the old sodium light.

Have now started converting the old 4' tube shop lights. As mentioned, they old fluorescent bulbs did not fare well in low temp situations. I started with the shop light fixtures in my wood shop. WHAT A DIFFERENCE !!!! I can now see well enough to keep my finger tips away from the table saw blade.......lol

And now I am converting my spraybooth lights over to LED's. Went with these so I have color correct bulbs in there.

Normal daylight is around 4500-5000K so these should simulate what the cars will look like out in the sun.

And with a 5 year 50,000 hour life span, it will be some time before I have to change them out.

The only issue is having to rewire the fixtures but it really doesn't take that long to swap out the tombstones and wire them direct.

Rick

I like the 5000K temperature also. I'm waiting for the 8' LED tubes to come down in price. Right now, I have 8' HO fluorescent fixtures in my shop. The HO ballasts perform no matter the ambient temperature.

Nice Rick, I bet the performance from those LED tubes is impressive. If I wasn't trying to sell the house I would convert all of the lights in my shop. The lights are T12 fixtures that don't like the cold.

I bought a bunch of Osram LEDs from Lowes a couple of months ago and I will be returning them all today. F'ing things have overheated, globes fallen of from the heat some have stopped working and now this morning there was the smell of burning plastic coming from the kitchen, turned out to be another one of those LED lights hotter than hell...I'm done with those things

Maybe this brand is better ??

Most A19/E26 compatible LED's are not recommended (or approved) for enclosed use.

These are Osram e26 8.5 watt 5000k bulbs and are listed as suitable for indoor/outdoor enclosed use. These bulbs were in track lighting along the ceiling, not sure whether that would even be considered enclosed though

A couple years ago I upgraded the lighting in the car trunk with LED's and also in the work truck. Instead of ordering the LED replacement fixtures I bought a 15' spool of flex LED's off amazon which you can cut to length in sets of three lights. Soldered on a couple leads to the pads on the flex, tied them into the dome light and trunk light and they have worked well. I'll get pic at night...you could land a helicopter using the trunk light!! I maybe could have used 6 less LED's in there!

Since I had 15' to start and only used about 2' for that I started looking for other uses too. A tap dance production at the community college wanted lights activated in time with the tappers. So I rigged up a couple metal plates to a short strip of the LED's and a 12v supply and their metal tap completed the circuit and lit the LED's. Still have about 6' of LED's left after using some more for Halloween. Next LED project for me is a custom pole light for the end of the walkway down by the driveway.

Lit up crew cab truck bed w/ LED's angled at 45* mounted down both sides of bed rails under tonneau cover.
After giving up on finding cab box light circuit, ordered a keychain remote w/ a controller for switching.

Hunting buddies all impressed when parked and getting gear in or out. :)

Very cool idea, especially with the keychain remote!! :verycool: Warning....I'll probably be stealing that for something in the future!

I returned the Ostram bulbs this morning ($85 worth) and picked up Utilitech bulbs on sale, 2 for 2.98. Got 6 boxes and may go back for more at that price.

Hopefully these ones won't threaten to burst into flames like that other junk
