I will burn coal even though my $8,000 Buderus oil system sits just heating hot water. I want coal to still here when all this oil nonsense evaporates again

I'm filling the oil tank tomorrow.
If I wasn't headed to MD this weekend for the last hunting trip of the season, I would be hooking the AA back up to the new plumbing. The oil tank gauge doesn't read that accurate and the spousal unit is terrified we will run out oil. She has really been panicking.
So I informed her tonight that come hell or high water, we will be burning coal next weekend. and then she can watch the coal bin level go down. That she can see and know how much longer we will have heat.
I'm sick and tired of having to dip the tank to keep her happy and at ease......

How about this scenario...... Buy American coal, support local employees wages, keep local businesses profitable so they can reinvest locally, their profitability will help keep tax increases at bay,...all of this will help you feel better about yourself, about your country. OR try this scenario..... Turn your back on America, turn your back on fellow citizens who may lose their job, turn your back on tax increases when the local coal yard closes, the coal breaker closes, yep, turn traitor !! Buy oil & help the WORLD OIL CARTEL grow bigger & more powerful, help fund terrorism, help the world oil cartel fulfill their goal..... NO COAL....... WHY do you think oil is so low ??? What is the government trying to do with coal ? They are trying to shut down coal..... are you going to help them accomplish their goal ? You will likely be the first to bitch when coal is no longer available or at least very expensive because of few breakers still going & oil goes to $ 4/gal or more. This post is not directed to any 1 person, rather at everyone who reads it. The Boston tea ship unloaders would turn over in their grave if they could see our willingness to pay the king for oil. Support America, the country we live & work in,buy coal, burn coal, keep warm with coal, send the oil ships back to their country. Coal is American.

Just recently got oil for $1.38/gallon for the farm house my daughter is going to live in. I figured my break even point is $1.15 to 1.20/gallon, I'm still burning but I never thought I'd see it this close ever! I just feel bad for all the guys that are sitting on 5 ton of wood pellets they bought last summer at $269 a ton ... ha! no, no I don't. You can preach but you can't make 'em believe.
This is usually the cheapest place in Lebanon, county and surrounding areas. Type in zip code 17042. http://www.countrysidefuel.com/prices
I filled up with propane for 1.29 / gal last summer. Used the furnace for an extra month this fall but I have been using coal since.
Is that what you kids are calling 'it' these days!!!

Just curious...why do you think coal is still so high??
Here in Ky, because what the current administration has done in the last 7 years, supposedly they can't seem to give bit away if you listen to what's being reported.
I have to believe that anthracite demand has to be way down as well.
So far it's been a really warm winter.
It seems to me that with demand being down and inventories up the coal prices would be down too.
I wonder if it's just a lag and the prices will come down soon...

my tank has been empty since I moved in 3 years ago, just called and ordered 100 gallons (the minimum) at 1.89 per gallon, just to have in case I need the back up heat from the oil furnace.

The best thing all of could do is to continue using coal. Long term it will be most of are heating for most anyone on this forum. The 1st chance the Arabs get heating oil will be $4+ a gallon.

My plan is to buy a tank of oil next week before war breaks out between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The next time I get my oil furnace serviced, I'm gonna have the service tech change the nozzle and calibrate the oil gun for Kerosene instead of HHO. Kerosene has a ten-year life and could be used for kerosene heaters and lanterns during prolonged power outages.

I'm not positive if any changes need to be made to the oil burner for kerosene, but I'm quite positive kerosene will loosen up all the crud at the bottom of the tank from #2 oil.EarthWindandFire wrote:My plan is to buy a tank of oil next week before war breaks out between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Mark, there is no nozzle change required for kero unless you want to change the firing rate.
Is it ok to burn dyed kero rather than clear kero in lamps/heaters? I have never messed around with it.
As for the shelf life of heating oil, mine is 5 years old and looks/burns fine.
