Well up here oil is around 2/gallon so deft still burning coal! Even if it was 1.50 I would still burn coal!

The break-even point is roughly $250/ton for anthracite. If you are paying less than that, coal is still less expensive. More than that and $1.46 oil is less expensive. Can you really purchase #2 heating oil at $1.46 per gallon?

And to think that I replaced an oil boiler with a coal boiler.

So coal is still cheaper and better but this is the real issue.

Which has the greater probability:

A fight will break out between NEPA miners and anthracite deliveries will cease.

Iran and SA will start a war and under Obummers/Kerrys expert guidance the ME will erupt into chaos and oil will skyrocket.

Place your bets here....

If oil is significantly cheaper than coal, burn oil and buy coal with the savings. You will be smiling when oil is back to $3+

Rob, if you live near Santas house perhaps but my rice is $171 a ton delivered. Coal is ahead in my part of the world, roughly half the price. Burn coal and save the money to buy a country cottage in Rouses Point, once owned by a famous coal burner.

All coal here, I don't even think about oil.

Plus I still have an old inground oil tank, really don't want to dump any oil in it.

I am not burning fuel, but I suspect there are a few guys that could do what I suggested if they can buy fuel for <1.50 and they are buying bagged coal at retail.

If you buy my house it comes with an EFM already burning.

Low oil prices will inevitably eventually affect the coal prices at some point too. ;)

$2.39 here last I checked. I don't see it getting to $1.75 here either.
