Brands of Nut Coal and Burn Time

has anyone noticed a difference in the burn time and ash amount between brands of coal? I been burning that stuff tractor supply had last year on sale. I have used Blaschak with the santa on the bag (i think this is the best) Kimmels from tractor supply for 4.00$ 40lbs bag. and this stuff from nj Reading coal (this stuff had more crap in it than I have ever seen lots of dust and plastic pieces, the supplier talked up his coal as he bags it himself and washes it down but it was the worst stuff I have ever seen. the kimmels is what I been using this year and have problem with the stove keep going in the morning.

I'm burning kimmels nut this year and am noticing shorter burn times and more ash in the stove. Not so much more ash in the pan, but more is building up in the stove / fire bed. Think I'll be going back to blaschak next year.
Might try miners choice coal from TSC if they have it. People have said its packaged as miners choice but its reading anthracite.

Im burning lehigh coal. I empty my ash pan once for every two buckets, 100lbs. I had one hopper load last 4days during the christmas heat wave. Nice big chunks that are super shiney. My nephew likes to play with the huge piece I grabbed at the breaker. I doesnt give off any dust. With the stove body at 325 a five gallon bucket(46lbs average) last over 24 hours

I have been using bulk Reading nut & like it much better than some Blashack we tried.I do wish that the Reading had less pea size mixed in. I hope to get some nut from Gale coal next time, as I really like their rice in the EFM.

I burned Eastern Ice nut (Reading that they bag) for the last couple of years. I got PO'd when I got a bag from the bottom of the pile that was all dust, so I shopped. Here's what I found:

1) Kimmel's from TS was consistently sized; I'd call it large nut. Once burning, it burned hot and long, but take the fire too far and it was tough to restore. Fine ash.

2) Miner's Choice from TS looked like the Reading from Eastern Ice, and burned like it. Wide range of sizes; the small stuff in it makes restoring the fire easy, but the ash is not as fine.
Note: Although TS has more convenient hours, the teenagers working at TS treat me like a big bother that they'd rather not have.

3) I'm likely to go back to Eastern Ice because when I didn't like one of the batches I picked up they treated me like a customer and wanted to make it right. Good folks who care.

This year is no better than last years Blaschack with sizes all over the place.one bag 2 inch pieces the next 1/4 inch pieces not all that many fines it just means endless playing around for a consistent burn. When all is different one load to another it makes it hard to set and forget for 12 hours. Hard at least for me as only second year at it. Ash is not all that bad. Kimmels from TSC last year seemed to burn hot and fast though sizing pretty good in the ton I got.

kimmes does have a nice large size and very consistent, but it seems that others have this short burn time too.
