If you are worried about leaks and electrical fires while you are driving, British cars are not for you. :D

Oh, you mean like my 1990 Jaguar XLS V12 that I bought real cheap. It looked and ran perfectly until somewhere down S Jersey on Rt 202 half of the cylinders stopped firing and filled up with gas while it ran on the other 6. The whole engine compartment erupted into flames - very exciting. If you think Obama is the devil reincarnate you have not dealt with Lucas electrics. Total POS.

LOL!!! I still have an 82 Range Rover in Maine I hope to resurecct someday, gray market vehicle before they were imported. I also had an 88 and a 109 Safari that had been ungraded with a 302 Ford and overdrive. Wish I had never let that go.

Get in line there is a 6 month waiting list for most models.

Lucas, designed around the principle of finding out exactly how many but splices can they get into a single wiring harness. :)

That's why many in the hobby change the Lucas motto "King of the road", to the "Prince of darkness". :D

My sister's 55 Westminster Austin had some interesting wiring.

However the early Lucas stuff was pretty simple. Easy to work on and quite reliable. With my 33 Austin all the terminal connections are just pointed brass screw pin connections. Just tin the bare end of the wire, insert that into the connecter hole and tighten the pointed brass screw down into the solder coated wire. They never come loose, and it's a gas-proof connection that doesn't go bad like ring, or blade terminals do.

55 Westminster Austin
Now that is an interesting car! Halfords in England (think Autozone) used to sell an aerosol that sprayed rubber. We used to spray the Lucas parts with it. It used to smell like burning rubber for a few hundred miles but you were rain storm proof. I bought a Humber Super snipe (sprayed pink) that the owner could not get to run and sold it for a song and just sprayed the c rap out of it. It ran for a year before I realized that I did not want a car that did 5mpg. Not one of my better ideas.

Wonderful little car, 6 cylinder, four on the column (and reversed shift pattern of American), but heavy as a Cadillac.

We called it "Mary's tank" after a drunk driving a Ford Lincoln cut her off driving across the Southern State parkway at night. The Austin hit the Lincoln at the right front fender and cut off everything forward of the Lincoln's windshield like a chain saw - engine, front end, and all. The Austin only got a dented left wing that took the bodyshop neighbor about a half hour to bang the dents out of. :D
