Ok so the co detectors read 0 right next to the stove. So it must not be leaking anywhere. Maybe I'll just try to turn it up a bit higher than I really ever need to get it to burn off completely and then see if the smell goes away at lower temps. Manometer should be here tomorrow.

Years after my Mark III was broken in, the dust that accumulates on the stove and the connector pipe would still give off a sort of odor when the stove is running super hot. I remember my parent's wood stove doing the same thing as a kid. Just the nature of the beast, I figure.

Where are you from?
Your using rice coal correct?
Have a baro installed?

Manometer is important the stove needs to draft at -.04 when at full burn and its not uncommon to see lower when at idle as long as its not zero
When you open the hopper and take a sniff does it smell? Does the fire appear to be burning to far up the grate? The fire should be about 2 to 3 inches down the grate from the hopper, if its burning up near the hopper you will get smell out through the hopper lid and possibly condensation. If this is the case the grate gaskets or grate are not seated correctly
