I only traced back Mom's mother's side to Capt. George Dow's family from Tremont. He's my 1st cousin, four times removed. Was the last skipper of the 7 masted schooner, Thomas W. Lawson. One of my cousins wrote the book of the ship's wreck and sinking.

I come from a long line of nobodies and I am maintaining the family tradition very nicely.

Seems the family did the same after the wreck. But that might have been just trying to lay low - something to do with it being the world's first oil tanker disaster.

It has been long discussed by "up state" Mainers that you should stick a compass point in Portland and make an arc that just takes in Augusta, throw in the coastline up as far as Acadia(Bar Harbor) and call it East NH or N Mass. The rest of the state would join NB, Canada.
Unfortunatly, that would take in Tremont as it is just off the island of Mt. Desert where the Dows still have a foothold. Used to play ball with a bunch of them.

Could we just trade that to Canada for their anthem? I used to think we would have to invade to accomplish that, but this looks like an interesting opportunity.

I like the eyewitness report: "As we turned [onto the highway], we saw the whole bridge — a kind of big gust of wind came underneath it and blew it up and then it came back down," she said, adding it shifted by about half a metre." They have either weather conditions or bridge engineers that I don't want to think about.

and the architects will sue the main contractor

who will sue the sub contractors

who will sue the steel makers

As the liberal Ontario pols took 20 % off the top nothing was done right. Who designed the traffic system so that there was only one road route from West to East. Interesting, well Quebec always wanted to be separated from the rest of the country, they almost got their wish.

Funny that in one part of the article it says both directions are closed indefinitely while in another part of the article the eastbound lanes weren't scheduled to open until 2017.

Westbound just opened in November so I hope they got more than a tail light warranty on those lanes.

Sounds like they go back to what they did before November if they wanted to drive west.

CN,

The road probably has a pretty low market share anyways, behind dogsleds, snowmobiles, that snowcat thing you bought and ice yachting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxsEOoCZ_2s).

I sent that to a buddy of mine in Caribou. He married a Mainer and they decided to live there. He just responded to my email with this: "A lot of truth in that, sad to say."
