Every Canadian knows that Maine; by rights, was supposed to be part of Canada, but because of our timber resources were much sought after... back when they actually had value...the United States kept it. It was called the Aroostook County War and while no one died over the battle, battle lines were still drawn and Canadians are still angered to this day about it. Thankfully they are just Canadians however who would not draw a pistol if you slapped their mother and crumpled up their Maple Leaf's hockey tickets so us Mainer's are quite safe.

Shouldn't poke fun at quiet folks, but that's why the question arises, "Dead? Or Canadian?"

Sincerely, I could add a few things to his diatribe. He did not stay long enough or get into the outer reaches. Or after 52 years there, I would still be there, not in Tenn. It has its good points, and I know what they are, but I am here........

Kevin

Those good points are being whittled away by those crunchy hippies and others from away I might add.

I honestly do not know why they picked on Maine, we pay our share of taxes and we send our share of troops to the front lines; the Twentieth Maine stands as proof of that, so why not something like Porto Rico? Did you know they can buy Powerball Tickets, yet not have to pay taxes to the US if they win? No joke, and they get every benefit of being a US Citizen without paying the whole taxes thing. If the US was smart we would just sell that Island off to a country that doesn't have an island in the Caribbean. I am sure Putin might be interested in a beach villa.

Back in the 1600's, poor ole Harvard had 157 fireplaces to keep stoked with wood so they had their own ship that plied the waters between Cambridge MA and what is now Belfast, Maine. Sometime in the late 1600's a family member never got back on the ship, but officially we were not granted land until my Great Grandfather many times removed, lost his life in the Luisburg Siege in 1746. For that loss of life we were granted the farm here, but switched sides during the American Revolution and thus were allowed to keep what we had.

Over the years we have moved south...albeit a few hundred feet in all those years.

Yep we are indeed moving south...at Glacier Pace!

If not for the 20th and Chamberlain, we'd all likely be eating grits and collard greens today ! I don't mind grits, but thank God for Maine, because I don't like collard greens ! ;)

They pick on Maine because it is still one of the greatest untamed bastions of Old America.
