Prior to my Jr departing for her new home in a Rail Car in RI I was also able to get 14 hours out her too. Jr's are amazing little units. Your lucky you have the dump grate on yours! I didn't...lobsterman wrote:The JR with its removable grate slats is designed to dump a pot of cold ash for easy restart. A key feature is to be able to bank up and hold a fire. Yes indeed, part of the reason I am running the JR this year is the need for several restarts do to work schedule. I was concerned about dislodging the removable slat during flossing, having to treat it gingerly, and Larry told me not to worry about it, that the weight of the coal will hold it in place but if it was ever a problem he would get me a one-piece grate, He was right, I just go in there and floss and have not had an issue so far. He made the one piece because people kept throwing out the slats with the ashes! I may ask him if he can put in a slat on the full-size stove grate. One side would be enough. Too many options, however, is a lot of busy work for him.ONEDOLLAR wrote:Prior to my Jr departing for her new home in a Rail Car in RI I was also able to get 14 hours out her too. I just can't wait till the Spring when the Jr goes down the Larry at Chubby Stoves and he gives her an overhaul. Not that she is in bad shape but I plan on keeping the stove till I die.

Ok update, I've only killed it three times, but now can get it up and running again in about 20 minutes. I wasn't getting all the ash out but now thanks to the people on here running real good. Question, should I close my mpd 100% ? Right now I close it about 90%. Thanks

It all depends on chimney draft. Unless you have a draft gauge, 90% is safer. I have a draft gauge, and a good drafting chimney. At 100% closed, my draft reads -.01 on an average day. -.02 to -.03 if turned just off 100% closed.Candyman wrote:Ok update, I've only killed it three times, but now can get it up and running again in about 20 minutes. Does your Chubby have the MPD that came with the stove? Just curious...Candyman wrote:Ok update, I've only killed it three times, but now can get it up and running again in about 20 minutes. Hey guys, my brother and I installed the Jr in the rail car and I have to say that little stove really impressed me! Larry did a great refurb on it. I didn't get to see it fired up but I could tell it was going work great for them!

Coalvet...
Thanks for doing my old Jr justice with the Rail Car install. Makes me smile when I think about how good she looks sitting in that "car" in RI.
Candyman
The original Chubby MPD has several holes it and generally there is a small gap around the damper itself. So even when fully closed, it isn't. So don't be shy about shutting the MPD down. The only way to learn how the stove will react is to try it. As always if you need any help or have questions don't be shy about contacting either Larry or myself. Happy to help!
