Just finished installing it in my fireplace. So nice dealing with Larry at Chubby Stove. Hopefully going to fire it up tomorrow , think I'm going to need a mantle shield.

Very nice indeed. The stove fits perfectly in that spot. If I may make a humble suggestion. Get an old cookie sheet pan to place under the stove during ash removal time.
I do it at my house. It makes clean up quick and easy and it reduces the risk of a stay coal burning the floor or rug.

Thanks everyone and you guys can make any suggestions you want, I'm all ears since this is my first stove. I have 16 inches from the top of the to the bottom of my mantle, I'm guessing I better get a heat shield?

Or a small, slow-speed fan. Mount it in the fireplace pointing up over the stove. The mantle is elegant- I think a shield not so elegant. Just my opinion.

Does the Chubby manual specify a minimum clearance from the top? If not, you are stuck with the code default of 36" (from combustibles). A fan would probably work, but the whole idea of having a hand-fed to use during a power outage goes against using a fan to keep something cool.Candyman wrote:I have 16 inches from the top of the to the bottom of my mantle, I'm guessing I better get a heat shield?

Candyman, very nice looking setting for the Chubby. Is the wooden mantle fastened ?? permanently ? Could you move it up 3" or so to get the proper clearance , without goofing up the looks ?
