As I am getting ready to re-install the 3/4" hardwood floors into my house I was wondering what I should be using as an underlayment? I typically use Red Rosin paper or roofing felt paper but I'm curious if I should consider something else with the radiant? I made a few calls and my answers ranged from "it doesn't matter" to "don't use anything or else" :? . One person recommended Polypropylene roofing underlayment which is new to me.

Is there one material that will allow the heat to radiate up better or am I overthinking it?

Really :o ? You don't experience any noise? I'm a little leery of adding nothing. This is an old house with pine T&G plank subflooring. I'm thinking with nothing I'll get lots of creaking.

Aquabar b it is kraft paper with roof felt sandwiched in between. Slows moisture transmission, so if your floor is over A moist basement the moisture content of the wood changes slowly. Not saying you need it just see a lot of guys using it. Been done many ways, every job is differant

In another post, I thought you bubble wrapped, insulated??? something????????????????? If ya feel compelled to use something--simple roofin or pink paper will work--won't keep creakin or other noises out--that's an under job.

My house has some sort of heavy paper under the hardwood. Floors stay nice and warm thanks to the boiler in the basement. I think anything without foil would be fine.

My grandmothers 1880 house has newspaper under the hardwood. :D

I havn't done anything yet. just asked a million and one questions to people who have  . I have already addressed the subfloor creaking. Should be good there. Sometimes if there isn't anything between the floors, you'll get creaking from the two moving across one another. That's the purpose of the paper.

I have seen newspaper used

I'm guessing the "heavy paper" you described is rosin paper.
