Don't know if it's news or not, but I spoke with Vermont Castings today, and the Vigilant has been discontinued. They told me whatever stoves the distributors have are still available, but they currently aren't producing any more. So, if anyone wants a new one, it seems like now is your last chance.

I had heard that, and really wanted a new one for my shop to replace my Resolute wood stove. As luck would have it I found a brand new floor model at a dealer who sold it to me at about half price! I'm picking it up on Saturday!

That's great, Rich. I was hoping for the same thing with my local dealer, but, alas, they want full price for their last one :?

What do you think about handing them a written offer, good 'til February 29th (or a date comfortable to you), and sitting back and waiting for a call?

That sounds like a good idea. I'm not really in a hurry. Thanks, maybe they'd bite...

I've actually done that before. It works!! An item I thought was priced a little more than I wanted to pay. I made what I thought was a fair offer, and was turned down. I gave my name & phone number. Said my offer still stands, should it not sell. Weeks went by......... One day I noticed the item was gone. I figured it finally sold. Months down the road, my phone rang. They took my offer. Turns out, it didn't sell. So they stuck it out back. One thing I didn't do was date my offer. That's a good idea. As spring approaches, they know the chances of selling the stove lessen.
