2016 ~ A year of changes for us

PostBy: windyhill4.2 On: Sat Feb 06, 2016 10:32 pm

While my wife & i were trying to recover from the big snow fall,we had another life altering experience on Jan.30 in the early nite time hrs.

My wife's 86 yr old step-father had an episode where he was leaning over a counter & couldn't move,we rushed over & got him sat down in a chair. A medically knowledgeable relative came & checked him out & found him to be ok with us needing to monitor him more.

Sunday his 1 son & wife came to stay with him all day & during the day we found that he was unable to walk on his own & several signs of worsening conditions. We called for an ambulance to pick him up mid-afternoon ,it took him to the local hospital where they found that he had experienced a "painless" heart attack. Several days in the hospital & he was moved to a nursing home for rehab. He seemed to be getting better....
This morning we got a call from his children that he is getting worse... blood sugar is high, blood pressure is climbing, kidneys are failing, feet are blue,it is not looking good for him.
We also are dealing with my mother -in -law's Alzheimer's flaring up much more because of the strain on her. My father-in-law died in '97,she married this man in '99...Feb. 17 would be their 17th anniversary, but doubtful that he will last till then.
Life goes on... we grow older, weaker & have more health issues,we have less & less older than us folks to go to for advise & guidance. We still trust in God to help us thru life's difficulties & look to Him more as we age & have more health issues & less energy. We cast our cares on Him ,because He cares for us.

Only 59 windy? For some reason I assumed you to be a bit older, don’t know why. I’ll be one year older in March also, a fish, not a ram.

It sounds like you run into a bad stretch lately and we all get them. I say getting old ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Hopefully things turn around; slow and steady wins the race. I like to have a long “to do” list. My thought is when I die and the vultures swoop in they will have work to do, my fear is if I finish the “to do” list I will fall over dead. Why let them inherit a finished project, let them inherit a work in progress.

Take care and best wishes for the future.

David , you and your family are in my prayers . Our Lord tells us to walk by faith.
In the Christian community, we often hear the term faith. However, when such a word is used frequently, it can become so familiar that we grow immune to its great depth of meaning.

All people have faith. For example, it takes a measure of confidence to sit down in a kitchen chair without first testing its strength. Yet belief in the fact that furniture will hold our weight is quite different from entrusting our life to almighty God. A wrong judgment concerning the first may result in a physical bruise, whereas the latter determines not only our success in this life but also our eternal destination.

So what, exactly, is a biblical definition of faith? Hebrews 11:1 tells us that it is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” And we know that it is impossible to please the Lord without faith (Heb. 11:6). In fact, there is nothing we can do that will earn salvation; the only way to heaven is by having confidence in Jesus’ substitutionary, sacrificial death on the cross, which paid the penalty we owed for our sin. What’s more, faith is nothing we can create within ourselves; Scripture is clear that it is a gift of God (Eph. 2:8).
Keep the faith brother
Dave

Sorry to hear about your family health problems Dave. while you might miss the advise of the older generation, it is time that you became the "rock" that the family needs you to be. You are a smart, sensible man and your family is lucky to have some one as great as you to be there at this time. Be strong guy.
