Hand Fed Coal Stove: Mark II & Mark I
Coal Size/Type: nut/pea

Post by lowfog01 » Sun. Feb. 14, 2016 2:36 am

Good morning, got up a little early this morning to check the stoves. We are in new territory here. I've never had to burn them when it's 11* with a wind chill of negative anything. We are at -2 and heading down. The Marks Brothers are humming away. The Mark II was running hotter then it needed to be so I reduced the air a tad.

I'm learning a lot with the Mark I. It doesn't have a damper of any kind due to space constraint with the black pipes and accessibility. That's got to change next year. The draft is just too unstable with the wind and extreme cold. One minute I have the air control open 1/2 spin and all is well and the next the same setting has the stove burning hot. I think I can replace the T with an elbow and straight black pipe and use the "collar" that comes in the box with the Baro for installation. That will be my summer project.

In the meantime the Mark I is keeping the basement warm at 71* and aiding the Mark II in keeping the house at a cozy 75*. I'm happy. Take care, Lisa

Yeah it seems we all shifted latitudes to the north by several miles. Dealing with arctic weather here right now.

Have a look!

Yep, it got colder than they forecast by quite a bit! My kitchen sink faucet was in trouble. It started only as a trickle for about 30 seconds on both the hot and cold side but ran good once some water got thru.

I will admit, I did cheat a little. I started the wood pellet stove last night to help keep the other side of the house warmer. (Old style thermometer reading)

We didn't get what they called for here. Current outside temp is 0 degrees, with 0 wind. Was supposed to be -4 with high winds.

I must be on the upward end of this blast, as far as I could see we stayed above 0 last night & going to the teens today. All in all no where near as bad as the last two years, onward & upward! :D

Last night I could smell the wood burners in the neighborhood as I sleep with a window open an inch or so...I think some were burnin' furniture! :eek2: pretty strong odors I had to close the window and kick off the covers  When I got in from work all I needed to do was a little shake and load in my hand fed stoves. Basement is about 65* and the upstairs around 75*, it's -10 and you would never know it. I love coal. :bighug:
