One of the big advantages of the triple aquastat besides replacing two seperate aquastats, is that when there is a call for heat, it starts the burner/stoker, rather than waiting for the boiler temp to drop. The other seperate controls can stil be used for dump loops etc. The newer triples can also vary temps according to outside temps and also offer low water cutoff options. Bobo K.

I am wondering if the new triple aquastat is connected to the L6006A correctly?
The electrician has my 6006A wired in parallel with the
triple aquastat TT terminals and I have had no issues with the KAA-4-1
since the electrician found the problem and I have a warm home
after all the problems that occurred previously.

You may as well wonder if the white wheel is set to correct setting too.lzaharis wrote:I am wondering if the new triple aquastat is connected to the L6006A correctly?
Since it is wired as a "dump" you will never know until L6006 gets triggered.
Now if'n it were me, I'd force it to "dump" by lowering the wheel to a setting less than the at the time vessel water temp and witness for myself that it in fact will/does work as designed/expected.

Good point, Larry.blrman07 wrote:Do we know yet if the l6006a is the only controller on this boiler?
Not sure we do know what's on his EFM 520 other than the mentioned L6006.

It would be nice if there was a triple aquastat hiding on the back of the boiler by the DHW coil and it was just set wrong.blrman07 wrote:Do we know yet if the l6006a is the only controller on this boiler?

This is exactly what I was afraid of. A single l6006a running the entire shebang. Ok where to start..... except for when the weather gets warm, buy by and install a triple aquastat to control this boiler and pump and turn that 6006 into scrap.

I have this model on my 520, it works very well and has an energy saving feature that performs well.

That's not even the right place to put the aquastat. The aquastat should be mounted down near the bottom of the steam chest. This will give the aquastat a reading on the colder parts of the boiler and therefore better control.
EFM's normally have the aquastat in the back next to the DHW coil. Please take a look back there to be sure one isn't hiding there.

Time for my $0.02.
1. Even if you did not replace the aquastat, you would get better results if it was located in the back of the boiler in the factory location. Most of the 520's I have seen have a 3/4" tapping next to the tankless coil, like this:
The aquastat will react quicker to a drop in temperature from the return water in that location.
2. You can control the boiler temperature with a single-acting aquastat, but the problem is that it doesn't have the ability to limit the boiler temperature AND provide protection from the timer malfunctioning. You either have to accept that the timer won't function correctly if you pass it through the aquastat, or you bypass the aquastat and hope that the relief valve will do its job if the timer sticks on. Neither situation is ideal.
3. Are your circulators powered via those cube relays in the last picture?
You can install a new L4006A or L6006A aquastat in the factory location and use it to control the boiler temperature - and use your current aquastat for high limit protection...or you can install a triple aquastat in the factory location, and hook up the timer the way EFM recommends. You may be able to hook it up to your relays so it knows when a zone calls for heat, or not. It depends.

Wow! Excellent installation! Who set that up for you? I'd go with the 3250 but you would also need the remote kit. It works so much better with the Aquastat on the wall.
