Cat & Cummins truck engines, my Case 580 LBH, the John Deere engines in the boat and most every other mechanical engine I ever ran would not need to be "primed" per se. Simply refill the fuel filters and crank it over, she will fire right up. The old two stroke DD would not. Refill the filters and crank it till doomsday, she won't fire a lick until you take extra steps to prime it. At least not if the tank is lower than the fuel pump. Sorry if I was not clear.

The above are one of many reasons I have had a 125,000 BTU multi-fuel ( JP1,2,3, K1, K2, No 1 fuel oil , No 2 fuel oil, K1 kerosene , K2, kerosene, No1 and No2 diesel fuels) salamander in the garage for the mule, the truck, the the walk behind snowblowers, the firewood processor I owned previously etc., plus for working outside in "weather".

The Racor FG500 diesel fuel filter units have 12-48 volt thermostat controlled fuel heaters in the fuel bowl and
they work very well.

I have the 500FG unit to filter my kerosene to get rid of the water and crap "Algae" etc after many years of dealing with fuel issues.

Now that I am burning the black rocks of course I have many fewer heating issues after the last hiccup with the wrong wiring on the L6006A and the Hydrostat 3250 Plus.

The jury is still out of the Hydrostat as the heating season is long from over and I will see how it runs on oil with the new boiler when the time comes in late April.
