I have 2 metal tubs and dump ashes in them till ash is cool enough to put in the plastic grocery then put out with trash. I double up the bags. It's a good way to get rid of those plastic grocery bags.

I empty my ashes into a 5 gallon metal bucket outside and when it is about three quarters full I empty the can into the bags the coal came in and set it out with the trash for pickup once a week.

The ashes from the handfed get dumped on the compost pile to be mixed in with all the rest of the bio-degradable stuff.
The ashes from the boiler are dumped on a pile where we can easily access it to use them for cindering the drive & parking/walking areas.
When the pile gets too big,we scatter the cinders in the grassy areas that we walk &/or drive in frequently
It helps prevent mud issues.

There will never be any of my precious ashes leaving this property to get buried in a landfill.

What a stupid thing to bury
The local roads could greatly benefit from these cinders
Of course the down side would be the tax money saved.

I like the idea of filling the M/T coal bags, and dumping them in the trash. Should've done it years ago. Don't have a compost pile, a big enuff garden, or dirt driveway. But I do wish I lived on a farm. (W/O animals or food to grow) :D
