I have never been in the new Cross Center but played on the old hardwood in the Auditorium back in the late 70's. I would have been watching but my old HS team was beat by Caribou early on. That would be Washington Academy.

Kevin

I also played a lot of softball with the Ellsworth Coach if it id still Peter Austin. A fine athlete he was.

I'm the same age Kevin, I don't recall high school basketball down Boston way having such a following like Maine. Big rivalry next, Orono- Oldtown.

Maine has been a hotbed of basketball but never produced high level players. Back in the day, there was NOTHING going on all winter and the local team was the the topic of discussion. People drove miles in blizzards to see a game. I remember many memorable bus trips in big storms. I had a friend and teammate from HS that took his kids up to the Bangor tourney(Eastern Maine Championship) so his kid could see the excitement and the show. He said it was like a ghost town at the Western Maine Tourney. To much to do in Portland and outlying areas I suppose.

Damn Kevin, ya got Freetown beat by 100 people. They shut down our post office--said we didn't have enough people & they weren't going to count cows, sheep or horses anymore--that was in the late 70's. We've still got our 2 room standing. I think some one is going to move it & use it for his rustic furniture shop--that'll be nice. :) Was that uphill both ways with cardboard in your shoes???????????? toothy
