End of Season Totals
I burned 8 tons this year. But I learned that I screwed up around February. I never knew that I needed a barometric damper. I installed that around Feb 15. From Nov 20th to Feb 15 I went through 6 tons. From Feb 15th to now, 2 tons. It has been much warmer out. I hope next year I'll be down to 6 tons.
I have an efm stoker boiler. Its goes 24/7, 7 days a week.

The Harman is out, the Alaska is idling along in the cellar, I've gotten the burn down very low, the smoke pipe is barely warm. It's keeping the cellar from getting damp. Hopefully next weekend I can finally get the water loop connected.
Look's like heating season is over except for cool damp days. I can raise the fire on the stoker easily, 4 turns on the "tab" on the stoker rod, and then move the carpet back on forth twice to boost up the fire and it's off and running.
I think I may finally have a handle on this coal burning thing.

I burned 800 gallons of oil this yr....next yr hope to be buring coal. The only reason I answered this thread was to mention how quiet my homemade electric motorcycle is. I can sneak up on the neighbors, no problem.

I've burned 391 bags (7.82 tons) of Blaschak rice so far this season heating my 4000 sq ft colonial. I'm not sure how much longer I'll keep the system burning---that depends on what Mother Nature has in store weather wise...
My "primary" heating system is FHA propane; so, my first year savings were huge. I originally planned a 3 year payback on installing the Keystoker Koker and hot air supply/cold air return duct work. With the current price of propane heading north of $3.50/gallon, that payback is getting shorter and shorter. Plus my house and family were toasty warm all winter---unlike the guys at work who are now asking me lots of questions about burning anthracite...
See you guys down by the Susquehanna river in May.

I'm down to the minimum mode now, about 3 bags a week just keeping the boiler alive and the hot water warm. I'm not convinced that we're out of the woods yet but my garden is all plowed under and disced smooth, if this warm weather keeps up it will be a great planting year!

Started off with 6200 lbs. on November 2nd and I last loaded the stove on tuesday morning last week and it was completely out by thursday afternoon. I have 680 lbs. left. I used 5520 lbs. for the season.
Now I won't be able to watch TV in my shorts till it gets a little warmer.

burned 4 tons + ~9 40lbs bags + I'm SLOWLY burning my 5th ton(delivered on March 31st). Stove idles most of the time right now, but cranks up for a couple of hours during those cold nights.
House is a well insulated RR: 1100 sq ft upstairs, ~800 sq ft in the basement(there is an unheated garage for the remainder of the basement). Stove is in the basement, with poor/moderate air circulation to the upstairs.
Next year with a boiler I'm hoping to get through the whole winter with 4 tons or less. Including heating the basement.

This is my 2nd year burning coal and I went through just short of 8 ton.I used to do a prepay with oil (1400 gals). This year I heard the prepay is 3.46 per gal.that's 4,844.00 if I still used oil.My coal cost is 250.00/ton bagged so you do the math. And we keep it MUCH warmer in the house, well worth the extra work.

Well that's it. I let the stove go out yesterday. Just too warm during the day to keep it going and not drive everyone out of the house. I used 9680 lbs in 169 days of steady burning. I have plenty of dry wood, so I will just kick up a wood fire once in a while to take the chill off in the mornings. If we have another cold spell, I can always go back to coal since I still have 3320 lbs left out of the 13000 lbs I bought this year.

I'm hoping to see a reduction next winter. The second hand Harman Mark II I just purchased has a blower on it. I have a 3000 sq ft house and generally have been averaging around 5 tons or just over per year. From everything I have read on here, a blower helps a lot in reducing the quantity of coal you have to use. As soon as I finish cleaning it up and repainting it, it will be in the basement and ready to go.
After shutting down for the 2nd time(got pretty cool in the A.M. bout 2 wks ago) I ended up burning just about 3 ton this yr.When I get around to cleaning stove up, gonna make some mods. as suggested on here. Hopefully that will reduce usage some. Also gonna try to button up the house some more, to min. drafts and hold the heat better.
