Alright Ladies and Gents,

I'm looking to get a Zero Clearance fire place insert that I can close and control in my living room.
I currently have a Zero Clearance insert in there that the glass is only there for show and it is a FIREWOOD EATTING MACHINE.
I would like something I could control and also not be scared to let it run while I'm not right there in the room.
I broke the glass on the one side last week, come to find out it didn't even have fire glass in it and was not to be closed when running. It makes no sense to me. Either way...

I've done a lot of research and there is no way to install a Hitzer 503 in it's place. This is NOT a masonry fireplace. It was a stick and tile board built fireplace with fake rock on the front of it. It also has an 8" Chimney going from the top up through the roof. 8" insulated into a 10" with a 12" air cooled gap.

I'm looking for something in the shoulder months when the Keystoker 105 is not really needed. I have free access to firewood but love burning Coal so I'll never be without Coal in some form in the house.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a coal stove out there that is zero clearance that I might have missed???

Help me out everyone. I'm dragging my feet on replacing the glass in hopes I find something that is worth actually having a fire in.

Thank you!

My Magic 8 Ball says "Outlook not too good" ;)

Open up that space, if you can build a foundation under it, and build it like it is new construction.

You can now have that musket and mantle you always wanted. 8-)

That looks like real brick to me. Mine is more like a tile shower surround I guess.

We're not discussing your cement board "fireplace", work of art that it is ... is this what you want as far as in dimensions of an insert and its protrusion?

Dennis, can you post a picture of what you currently have, along with some measurements? I think it would help a lot. Everyone is guessing at this point.

I'll grab some pictures tonight I only have a couple of distances one.
I'll break down all the information for you guys tonight with measurements and what not. Should have gotten that stuff first, I apologize for that. Really wanted to put at Hitzer 503 in there but that ship has sailed.

This was from last weekend when the weather was at this point around -10*, notice the happy dog on the floor to the left and the happy dog laying on my lap.

This was about 45 mins before I closed the glass to come the fire down for the night and it shattered shortly there after. Incase you were wondering, tempered glass is only good up to 400*f. And it sounds like a 12 gauge going off in the living room when it does break due to heat!

This would work fine but it's got to have glass on the front.

Chris, aka 009to090, had a Fireplace Xtrordinair in his NJ house before he moved to NC. PM him - he love his and heated his upper floor while coal heated the lower level. If I recall, the unit he had was rated at 70k and was actually a wood stove disguised as a fireplace.

MB if my questions and looking for insight is bothering you or not up to your standards you're welcome to leave. Seems like nothing I say is right on this thread with you.

I picked up a dozen new zero clearance see thru inserts with refractory and glass doors. I'm not sure what you are looking to do, but you can buy one of these for less than the cost of the door kit :D

Here is a link to the model and specs.

This would be awesome to put in but that would present an issue. I guess the deer in the yard could enjoy a nice fire as well.

Thanks for the try, It would be an option if it was in the middle of my house. This is against an outside wall.
