So I have a modine, two wires off the motor, both are black, does it matter which go to which?

double check name tag on motor for voltage may be 220 volt. if not wire up an go.

Shouldn't matter unless it runs in the wrong direction, then you need to use different poles for the wires.

ok, it is 120 volt, and doesnt change direction either way, thanks guys!

Yeah, AC changes polarity 60 times per second...so no worries for which one gets connected to your white wire.
It's not biggie to put 110v into something needing 220v...but to do the opposite is bad and will allow all the smoke to quickly escape.

no? you talking about running the ground wire to the motor housing?
